One of the best things about the internet is how much new talent it helps us discover.
For the most part, YouTube is a place where people can upload their own videos and experiences so that other people can find them.
Still, since the internet has grown, major companies have also started uploading videos and putting clips from television shows on there for people to find. Even though everyone uses these platforms, there are still incredible things to discover.
And the clip we’re talking about today is another great example of that.
The clip we’re talking about comes from Vijay Television, an Indian-Tamil television network.
Though it goes without saying, most people in the Western side of the world will never have access to the station or its broadcasts. Fortunately, one of the more impressive performances from the station has gone on YouTube.
As the clip begins, a flute player named Navin stands onstage in front of a live audience. Although the flute is the star of the show, there’s also a cadre of additional musicians on stage that help him.
From the very beginning, the melody and tune that he plays is so beautiful.
Although we’ve all heard flute music before, the way Navin plays is so unique.
The flute he plays has a warmer sound than most people are used to, and he plays it with much more fluidity and smoothness.
From the very beginning, he shows that he can play slow beautiful notes as well as fast-paced, choppier sounds just as easily. In between it all, he slides up and down the scale and makes all the notes bend. At one point, the audience gives him a spontaneous round of applause.
After he’s got the crowd warmed up, the rest of the band joins in for a jazzy musical performance.
Though plenty of people probably haven’t heard the song before, it sounds like something that could be a radio hit!
The drums carry the rhythm and someone in the background plays some tinkling piano keys to support him. There’s also a bass guitar that plays in between the notes as the song goes on. Still, the main star of the entire performance is Navin’s incredibly fluid flute lines.
Towards the end, the song even changes keys and takes on an entirely new tone. To take things up a notch, Navin shifts in between the notes up and down rapidly in a way nobody expects.
Again, the crowd gives him a huge round of applause!
The clip was first loaded online in June 2017, and since then it has earned nearly 18 million views on YouTube!
Even for people who are unfamiliar with this music, it’s clear to see why this became so popular. The flute is already a difficult instrument to play, but Navin brings incredible ease and originality to it.
Though all of us have at least a glimmer of musical ability, his skills are truly impressive to anyone. As this video shows perfectly, there’s no limit to the kind of talents you can find online—and no limit to human creativity in music!
