There are certain songs that are just too good not to dance to, especially when they have a unique and catchy beat. So it’s not surprising that Blanco Brown’s “The Git Up” took the internet by storm. It’s a country-rap song that comes with its own set of fun dance moves.
Blanco’s hit also inspired “The Git Up Challenge.”
Oh you know, it’s the internet challenge where people bust out their best “Git Up” moves in front of the camera. But while the moves are the same, the location and costumes are up to the dancer.
A young man named Tevin decided to ‘Git Up’ in the middle of a North Carolina Walmart and the results were incredible. According to the video, it was during the store’s “re-grand opening.”
The crowd knew they were in for a treat.
From the first moments of the catchy tune, people knew that there was a show to see. You can just imagine the entire store showing up and surrounding this young man as he takes the first steps of “The Git Up”.
With small steps, slides, and quiet stomps, Tevin commands the stage showing off why this song has become one of the hottest sensations on the internet. But fans of Blanco Brown’s dance know that it’s not just the slides and stomps that make this a fun dance.
Tevin really knows how to entertain a crowd.
The fun begins as Tevin brings the audience in on the performance. He skips and slides his way to interact with members of the audience. He dances up to an older woman and makes her smile and dance.
He even does the hip-shaking part of the dance for Walmart employees and you can see their smiles. Just goes to show that “The Git Up” has an undeniable universal appeal!
He continues to knock the challenge out of the park.
If you know the original dance, there’s always a drink involved in the song. Many TikTok dancers use red plastic cups filled with juice, Capri Suns, or other drinks of choice as a prop.
As the lyrics say:
“gon’ throw down take a sip with it
now lean back put your hips in it”
What better way to bring the audience in than to share his drink? Tevin offers the audience his drink so his hands can be free when wowing the crowd with his steps.
He can’t be stopped.
Tevin reclaims the cup late into the video and wiggles and steps his way through the performance space. The video could have ended here, but “The Git Up” is more fun with friends.
So he first walks up to one of the Walmart employees and holds out a hand. He offers her a chance to join the fun. But the shy employee turns him down and Tevin respects her choice.
As the song goes out, Tevin leaves the Walmart stage.
All good things must come to an end, just like this song. As the last notes play, Tevin struts off the stage since “The Git Up” is more about having fun dancing than waiting for applause. But a person calls out over the loudspeaker:
“So what about it for Tevin….check it out on YouTube. He’s your YouTube star.”
There are tons of awesome challenge videos out there, but this is one that’s earned over 3.6 million views and 55K likes on YouTube.
