Mac DeMarco is a Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer.

He is known for his confusing genre and peculiar musical style, which is often dubbed as “blue wave” and “slacker rock.” Most of his work falls under the genres of indie rock, psychedelic rock, jangle pop and even lo-fi. However, this is not the only thing that makes him Mac DeMarco.

It is really hard to perceive DeMarco’s professional demeanor as a musician.

DeMarco is no doubt a skilled and talented musician, and he has proven that himself a couple of times whether by recording in the studio or rocking out in live shows.

However, it is hard to take him seriously when he continually displays silly and annoying stunts that would make listeners wonder how he could get away with it.

Reviewers usually see him as an unpretentious musician who has almost has no filter. Still, even though his unfiltered sense of humor is something people would hate about him, it’s also what they love at the same time.

No matter how aggressive and highly energetic a dog can be, most dogs usually calm down after a couple of years.

That is somehow true to the wacky and goofy rock star after releasing his third album in 2017 called This Old Dog. His usual messy and over-the-top rock music magically fell into a much chiller and more romantic tone on his 2017 album.

He performs one of his songs on the album in this COLORS show.

The once chaotic DeMarco now sits in a plain-colored room with his acoustic guitar.

It was only him, the microphone and the people were about to witness his new style. He sang one of the album’s songs called “Still Beating,” and it was easy to see how different his songs were compared to before. The song offered finely written lyrics and a rhythm that you could just fall back and relax. The romantic vibe was so refreshing that he was able to shed a whole new light on his musicianship.

His performance in the COLORS studio was uploaded on YouTube and it racked up four million views.

DeMarco showed people his amazing growth.

He shared his experiences when he was making the album as he moved to Los Angeles to start a new life. DeMarco compared how he wrote this album to his previous ones saying, “But this time, I wrote them and they sat. When that happens, you get to know the songs. It was a different vibe.” If you are planning to listen to the whole album, be sure to browse his songs on Spotify.
