Willie Nelson left an indelible mark on society. Now his son is following in his footsteps.

Lukas Autry Nelson is making headlines with his own country music career.

According to Country Than Daily, Lukas was born on Christmas Day in 1988

His mother is Willie’s first wife and is the sixth among his seven children.

He was born in Austin, Texas, and grew up in Maui Hawaii.

Lukas said he was grateful that he didn’t grow up in Austin where his father was treated like a king.

This way he could have a more level-headed childhood where he didn’t see himself as a prince.

It’s no surprise that Lukas took to music at an early age.

He began playing guitar and was in his father’s band by the time he was 13 touring as his dad’s rhythm guitarist.

Along the way, the’s become friends with some of the most famous musicians in the world like Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, and Neil Young.

In 2004, Bob Dylan offered him a job.

His mom nixed that so he could finish school. It was a time when Lukas practiced guitar for up to 8 hours a day. In 2012, appeared on his father’s album “Heroes” along with his brother Micah.

“I didn’t try to go to parties. I never even drank until college. I didn’t have a girlfriend until I was 17. I was really a late bloomer,” he said

He went on to be in Bradley Cooper’s band in the movie “A Star is Born.”

He also helped to co-write the film and served as Cooper’s vocal coach for the character Jackson Maine.

In 2012, appeared on his father’s album “Heroes” along with his brother Micah.

Lukas is currently the lead singer and guitarist for the band Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real.

They collectively released six studio albums and four EPs. Promise of the Real was originally Neil Young’s backup band from 2015 to 2019.

The band now also includes Michah Nelson. They were supposed to go on tour in 2020 before the pandemic but that got canceled.

They picked their tour schedule back up in June of 2021.

But it’s one of Lukas’ solo songs performance that blew up on the internet.

Lukas’ rendition of his father’s rendition of “You Were Always on Mind My” ended up getting more than 8.1 million views on YouTube.

The ballad was written by Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James.

It was first recorded by Brenda Lee and first released by Gwen McCrae. It became famous after Elvis Presley sang it.

Willie’s 1982 version of the song went on to win a Grammy. The song was considered a crossover hit because it charted in both country and western as well as pop categories.

It was featured on Willie’s 27th studio album of the same name which was the Billboard number one country album of the year for 1982.
