Not many people know about Georgia, a small European country located on the eastern side of the Black Sea. Most people are familiar with bigger and more famous European countries like France, Italy, and Spain.

Georgia was part of the Soviet republic for many decades before it declared independence in 1991.

The country has a population of only 3,732,000 people, less than the city of Los Angeles.

Being part of the Soviet Union for decades and its small size are among the reasons why not many people know about Georgia and its culture.

Other better-known neighbors surround Georgia, such as Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Armenia.

Despite its small size and more popular neighbors, Georgia is known for its ancient cultural roots, traditional dances, and polyphonic music.

One of the country’s most famous folk dances is the Acharuli.

The Acharuli is a cheerful dance known for its light-hearted movements. It is usually danced by men and women using flirtatious moves interacting with each other.

Men maintain a respectful distance from women during the dance, which is part of Georgian societal norms.

In the Acharuli, the woman dances a graceful solo, which we are enjoying in this video.
