Practicing traditions hold true until today.

Festivals and rituals are practiced annually to remind ourselves where we came from, and how we have become, as we look forward to the next years to come.

A great example of keeping the culture alive is this performance by two adorable young girls wearing traditional costumes.

They’re dressed in Highland tartan and dancing shoes.

They’re performing Pas de Basques and Highcuts.

The dance routine is largely performed by the foot and is part of the Highland dances, a style of competitive dancing developed in the Scottish Highlands in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Upper body movements are also used in the routine.

These are commonly performed during public events like the Highland Games.

It is said that the routine was created from the Gaelic folk dance, but it has its influences from outside the Highland traditions.

Starting them young.

Many kids start learning the Highland Dances with the Pas de Basques and Highcuts, just like the two in the video.

The dance is backed by bagpipes played on the side as part of the Highland tradition.

They never forget their ghillies.

Also, the highland dancers wear special ghillies or shoes that help the dancers balance.

It’s one of the highlights of the festivities.

It’s called “summer nights” and takes place in Kirkcudbright, Scotland. Hundreds gather around for nights of dancing, music, and fun.

The gatherings are filled with food, live performances, and bagpipes to set the ambiance.

The two young girls honored this special gathering by dancing the traditional Highlands Dance with bagpipes playing in the background.

One of the spectators caught their adorable performance on video.

Summer Nights have offered locals and tourists alike the opportunity to get together and have fun with the community.

In the video, the bagpipes started to play and the girls marched in the middle of what looked like a street where crowds are scattered to the sides to watch.

Everyone was glued to their feet.

At the queue, the girls bowed and started to dance with their feet, springing side to side while their hands were on their waists.

Each jump was as impressive as the other, considering their age.

As the bagpipes played, they started to wave their hands while marching along, and back to jumping side to side.

They’ve performed well in a big crowd.

Even at a young age, they were brave enough to dance and perform to their hearts’ content.

These young dancers had learned to use the balls of their feet to land each time. Not only that, but they should also use their hands and arms in unison with the footsteps.

Though this is only the beginning of their dedication to the Highland Dances, these young girls are well on their way to becoming great Highland dancers.

See these two adorable lassies uphold the highland tradition in full garb and ghillies in the video below!
