Watching children perform a dance number is one of the best ways to spend your time.
It’s both adorable and exciting. Particularly because it’s where they start to realize that they love doing something and seeing someone fall in love with something is an amazing experience.
In a moving video posted on YouTube, eight young girls dance gracefully to the popular Christian song, “You Raise Me Up,” by Josh Groban. However, instead of performing to Groban’s version, they dance to a cover sung by Westlife.
The girls are performing for the youth church, RCCG City of David-Eket in Nigeria.
According to their website, they are a province that oversees 150 parishes and eleven states. They also state that their programs and services are unorthodox and that “everyone is given (an) opportunity to contribute without discrimination.”
These young girls are using their opportunity to perform for others. The song itself is inspiring and seeing them dance to it somehow feels uplifting. Perhaps because they are young and full of potential, something most remember and maybe even long for being again.
The video begins with seven girls standing in two rolls. One girl stands on the back. They each wear a black shirt accompanied by a colorful tutu. The best part is that each young lady is wearing a different color. Red, green, orange, blue, and yellow are all in attendance in addition to a few more colors.
We must say, their routine is nicely choreographed and flawless. They move about the stage with poise and grace. They have clearly spent much time rehearsing because they stay in unison through much of the dance number.
They look like little angels the entire time but this is the most apparent when each dancer puts her hands together and tilts her head to the side as if she were sleeping. I must say, it made me want to take a nap too!
The girls prance, hop, and twirl around the stage. Behind the young dancers, another girl, who looks slightly older than the others, stands silently.
At one point, the girls get down on the floor in a praying-like position when the older girl performs a solo routine around the others. She has the right idea, wait off to the side to save that energy for your big moment!
She too skips and hops around the stage in a graceful manner. When she finishes, the girls “rise up” together, just as the lyrics call for.
They then perform a swimming motion when the band sings, “You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.”
They perform those same steps (praying on the floor, rising, hopping, and skipping) a few more times before the song ends. What helps to keep things interesting is not only how cute they are but how each time they perform these steps, they become more and more intense.
As the music grows in intensity, so do the girls.
When the song ends, they receive a standing ovation from their audience. The young lady in the red tutu stands from their praying position before everyone else. It’s adorable because she isn’t sure if the performance is over yet.
Luckily, it is!
What a fabulous routine by these young ladies! You can watch the full video below!
