Some songs resonate with us in a way that is hard to describe. Maybe it’s the lyrics, maybe it’s the melody, or maybe it’s the way that it makes us feel. When a song hits us in our hearts, we can’t help but love it.

Of all the world’s songs, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen is one of the hardest hitting.

When I say “hard-hitting,” I mean how a song impacts you. You can’t listen to the entire song and not place yourself in the stories that each stanza tells. We all have felt the pain, joy, and peace that Cohen dives into with the lyrics.

With a song as popular and beautiful as that, people have been covering since it came out.

A “cover song” is simply a song performed by someone who isn’t the original writer. The cool part about covers is that it allows another artist to rub off on the original in a unique way. Take Jeff Buckley. Buckley’s cover of Hallelujah is arguably the most renowned, yet distinctly different than Cohen’s version. Where Cohen has blues and grunge, Buckley has passion and grief.

Those individual takes and spins on songs is what makes this version so special!

In the world of Hallelujah covers, not everyone makes it to the top. In a viral video that was filmed about a year ago, however, one little girl shows just how unique a cover can be. Veronica has over 8 million views from her version of Hallelujah.

Veronica takes liberties with the lyrics, but not as much with the melody.

Standing in a chapel, Veronica stands up to deliver her version of Hallelujah, only this time it’s a “religious version.” Why the religious version, you might ask? Well, Veronica’s only seven!

When she starts off singing, you realize this girl knows what she’s doing!

While all little kids are cute when they sing, Veronica doesn’t use it as a crutch to make her performance good; she has her own skills. The guitar teacher plucks the strings, pretty much to provide Veronica’s stage to shine on, not to add music to her song all that much.

Without any fear, Veronica sings her heart out!

Veronica makes her way through the initial verses with a confidence you don’t often see in little kids and finally arrives at the best part of her range. When Veronica is able to belt out the word “hallelujah,” you see her at her best. She is definitely a power singer, and whenever she gets the chance, she lets us know!

One woman even recounted how the innocent little girl made a mark on her heart:

“Gosh, I wept while listening to her beautiful voice. Tears running down my face. What a wondrous Talent. She needs to come to “Americas Got Talent Show in NYC for an audition. She will be picked up. Definitely. Thank you for sharing.”

Near the end, Veronica even goes down to the camera and asks, “Does this thing only record music?”
