10-year-old Maeve needed a dance partner to dance with her at her summer recital.

More specifically, she needed a tap dancing partner.

Of everyone she could have asked, Maeve decided to ask her 72-year-old grandfather, Bill Jones. Understandably, Bill could have declined. Tap dancing requires a good amount of energy, which could be especially tiring on an older body.

But to the delight of Maeve, Bill was more than happy to help his granddaughter. Together, the two put on quite a show.

To master their routine, Maeve and her grandpa practiced one hour a week for six weeks at her dance school, From the Top Dance Center in Reading, Massachusetts.

Bill took it just as seriously as his granddaughter, and their hard work certainly paid off.

The announcer described them as “fifth generation dance lovers”, and it shows.

“My mom says my grandfather loves to dance,” Maeve shared, “and I asked him if he wanted to do a tap duel with me, and we did it. And it’s amazing.”

The pair danced to the tune of Anna Kendrick’s “When I’m Gone” cover from the film Pitch Perfect. Bill smoothly kept up with Maeve every step of the way.

And not one to be undone, when Maeve performed a cartwheel at the end, Bill swiftly followed with a cartwheel of his own!
