Kids will always have their role models in life, it could be their parents, fictional superhero characters, or professionals like doctors, policemen, lawyers, soldiers, and many more. They look up to these people or characters, oftentimes, they want to be like them once they get old.
It’s a part of growing and it simply means that kids also appreciate greatness whenever they see one.
This British kid, in particular, became extremely fascinated with things related to the military.
His unique fondness started at such a very young age.
His name is Marshall Scott. His single-mom, Imogen Scott, gave birth to him when she was 17 years old. Though he doesn’t have his biological father beside him, he found a father figure from his grandfather (Imogen’s dad). In fact, he taught Marshall the marching beat.
Imogen told Mail Online:
“My dad is a drummer so he has taught Marshall the marching beat. Another beat on the drum he learned is ‘mama, dada.”
According to miss Scott, she noticed his son’s extreme liking to military things when Marshall was just less than two years old. When she first took Marshall to Windsor Castle, she noticed that his son was deeply captivated by the spectacle. That’s also the time when the little boy became interested in the Guards.
Marshall and mom had another visit to Windsor Castle and everything turned out as a surprise.
It’s a celebration of his fourth birthday so Imogen decided to bring her son somewhere he really wanted. Marshall dressed like a little guardsman himself and he couldn’t be happier to look like one of them.
Some tourists even took a picture with him. He was an instant star that day. Why not? After all, it’s his birthday, so he might as well have a blast.
Changing of the Guard.
Imogen said:
“I took him to see the Changing of the Guard once and that was it – he was only about a year-and-a-half when I first took him to Windsor Castle.”
In a video that went viral, during the Changing of the Guard, as the guardsmen march towards the castle, Marshall can be seen on the corner saluting to them. It simply shows that he really look up to them and he’s taught that they’re someone to be respected.
To their surprise, one of the soldiers goes back!
He walks straight to Marshall, stops, then gestures to come close to him to which the mini soldier quickly follows. Imogen couldn’t believe her eyes but she’s able to pull herself through and snaps some pictures of them.
It’s something unusual for a royal guard to do. When asked in an interview what made him do it, he told the Evening Standard:
“Usually I would just take the guardsmen in the guardroom as normal – but my wife and I are expecting a baby boy, and I remembered standing at Edinburgh Castle when I was younger hoping to get a picture with a soldier.”
He added:
“I noticed Marshall in a Coldstream guards uniform, and seeing him coming out made me proud of what I do.”
Their first formal meeting.
In an introduction made on TV, Marshall met Lance Corporal Edden for the first time. Both their families plan to meet again, but without any pressure from the media or any TV show. They also promised to give the adorable boy a trip around Windsor Castle once he gets assigned there again.
Though he’s too young, Marshall definitely knows how to pay respect to the guardsmen. He doesn’t just simply look up to them but also respects their profession. Who knows, one day, Marshall might become a professional guard himself – and he’s going to be the first in their family.
