It was a peaceful day at Overland Park, Kansas. So PIO John Lacy and the people from the Overland Park Police department decided to make the most of it by creating their own lip sync video.
The lip sync challenge has been going on for quite some time now but Lacy and his colleagues put their heads together and came up with a fresh new take on the challenge!
Imagine sitting quietly at work when one of your superiors just suddenly decides to include you in his performance. It might be the stress. Or the boredom.
It’s a good thing he’s got the confidence for it. Officer John looks up and just belts out the intro to Harry Belafonte’s “Banana boat (Day-O)”.
What in the world has gotten in to the boss now?
Silent belting of course. But he is so convincing it really looks like it’s him singing. John Lacy has the talent to match his facial expressions to what he is singing and it is hilarious.
He doesn’t shy away from doing a funny dance step either.
Interrupting a meeting, it looks like he asks his colleagues to join him for the day.
“Daylight come and me wan’ go home.”
They toss their papers in the air, and with smiles on their faces, they stand up to follow Lacy’s lead. He’s sort of like the Pied Piper here minus the dark ending.
It is such a happy and feel-good song you can tell they had immense fun doing this challenge.
It’s so much fun to watch that it’s hard not to smile and bop your head to the song. And those smiles!
Even the Mayor himself got involved. Officer John is quite a character if he’s able to get Mayor Carl Gerlach and city management in on the performance.
With over a million views and counting.
Viewers love it.
“Oh my stars this is THE BEST one I have seen yet, you guys are great!!!!”
And they all echo the same sentiments.
“This is the BEST one I’ve seen so far. This guy really looks like he’s having fun. His moves and facial expressions are over the top. He is just perfect! FIVE STARS!”
Officer Lacy has the moves to match his many faces.
He maintains his funny gait and hilarious facial expressions all through out the video and it never gets old. John proves that not all men in uniform are stiff and boring.
He must be really fun to work with.
I get the feeling his colleagues have lots of stories to tell about him.
To serve and protect and entertain.
John goes around town just having a blast with everyone. He really is a popular guy seeing as people find it easy to have a little fun with him. His demeanor never changes and it’s clear his mission was to spread smiles and laughter.
And for whatever reason only known to him, he puts on goggles, snorkeling gear, and flippers for good measure. What a day-o indeed!
