Simon Cowell has a very strong personality that has earned him a bad reputation.
Long before he created shows like The X Factor UK and America’s Got Talent, Simon was a judge on American Idol and he was known as the “mean” judge, while Paula Abdul was the nice judge, and Randy Jackson was the fun judge.
While Simon has lightened up over the years (we’d say having a kid made him a little softer), he still can get tough when he has to judge auditions.
Currently, Simon is judging season 13 of America’s Got Talent and some of the acts just haven’t impressed Simon.
Depending on the act, Simon will immediately slam his red X to say that he is out and won’t be voting yes for that act, or he’ll wait until it is time for the judges to vote to say he didn’t enjoy the performance.
When Lioz Shem Tov auditioned for America’s Got Talent, he did not win over Simon right away. If anything, his first impression was actually pretty bad.
In fact, Lioz was only a few seconds into his act when Simon decided to slam his red X! But Simon wasn’t the first to give Lioz the X, it was actually Heidi Klum.
Both Heidi and Simon just didn’t get what Lioz’s act was, they didn’t know if it was supposed to be funny or serious. At the end of the audition, Lioz said it wasn’t meant to be funny.
However, Mel B and Howie Mandel were near tears from laughing so hard at the end of this audition. They could not stop laughing!
Heidi didn’t change her opinion after watching the entire audition, but Simon actually had a change of heart, which is very rare for the “grumpy” judge.
He thought that the audition was stupid, then incredibly stupid, but by the end, he found it to be hilarious and asked if he could take his X back.
By doing this, he was able to give Lioz Shem Tov his third yes of the season and sent him to the next round of the audition! Can you believe that?
While Simon was debating whether or not to put him through, the audience could be heard shouting, demanding that he get let through to the next round. They clearly loved him!
But not everyone was a huge fan. Some commenters online were quick to point out what they felt about this audition.
One YouTube commenter had a similar reaction as Heidi:
I really didn’t get this guy’s act. He didn’t do anything special or any type of magic. I was waiting for a big trick at the end and it just didn’t come. It honestly wasn’t that funny either. Mel’s pronunciation of telekinesis was funnier.
