What comes to mind when you think of a male a cappella group? Some goofy guys in blazers and slacks, singing songs from yesteryear? Most of the time — you’d probably be right, but that’s certainly not the case with Straight No Chaser.
Straight No Chaser isn’t your stereotypical tight-laced all male a cappella group. Although, they still wear the khakis.
According to their website, “Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. As original member Randy Stine comments, ‘We take the music very seriously; we just don’t take ourselves too seriously.’”
The group is based out of Indiana University and has been leaving their mark around the country, and even the world, since 1996. It was a viral video of “12 Days of Christmas” in 2007 that really put them on the map.
A viral video in 2007 led the a cappella group to a five-album record deal with Atlantic Records. The video has been seen over 20 million times.
Given their history, it’s no surprise that when they were performing in New Mexico, that they were going to give the audience a performance they would never forget. In fact, the video of it has already amassed almost 4 million views!
The ten gentlemen take their mark on stage and announce that they will be performing their very own silly rendition of The Lion Sleeps Tonight — a song that almost everyone can sing along to.
This wasn’t going just to be any performance; this was going to be a full on choreographed, hilarious experience.
As one of the members announces to the crowd that they’ve choreographed the moves themselves, the audience is already giggling. The rest of the singers are goofily stretching in the background.
The moment they start singing, you can tell how much talent of these amazing men possess. Even though they are being incredibly silly and not being serious in any way, you can tell that they have mastered their craft.
The audience can’t help but be in awe of their talent while cracking up at the same time. Straight No Chaser has yet again, blown people away with their crazy antics and impressive voices.
