And this military orchestra, the largest performance so far, have gathered together to play this iconic song during the Musikschau der Nationen in 2002.

The song was written in 1955 by Hy Zaret and composed by Alex North for a movie called “Unchained.” A lot of people wonder why it’s called Unchained Melody when the phrase doesn’t appear in the lyrics. It’s because it first appeared in this movie.

The movie was about a man serving time in prison. He misses his wife and kept battling whether he was going to stay and service his sentence or escape to be with his wife.

Todd Duncan, who also appeared in the movie, sang the song for the movie’s score.

Since then, the song has been covered by different artists and musicians and has appeared on the Top 40 list. It wouldn’t be until ten years later when The Righteous Brothers would record this song for their album.

Their single would debut at #72 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965 and would make them famous for this song. It stayed on the list for three months.

It stayed on the list and became a classic because fans of the song feel so many emotions and stir up different memories while listening to it.

“In my 87 years, I have never heard anything as beautiful as this, it brought tears and emotion,” Charles E Neuf said.

The performance started with a beautiful trumpet solo, which shows how this simple song can be so moving right at the start.

Eventually, the other members of the orchestra joined him and played this timeless music to the audience present and the YouTube viewers. This performance was performed in 2002 and uploaded in 2009 and has been watched more than 9 million times.

Who knows how many people have viewed this again and again?

There are some who watched this performance because of what the song represents for them. And then there are some who recognize and appreciate who was playing.

“When soldiers from around the world gather not to fight but instead take part in humanity’s greatest creation, it is more moving then the music itself,” Peter Brungardt shared.

And there are some who hope performances like this can do more than just entertain the viewers.

“Amazing how so many people from so many Countries can come together in peace and harmony through music. I just wish there was a way we could distribute that language of music to the rest of the world so that we could all live in peace and harmony with each other,” Koala hoped.
