Music brings people together from all walks of life.
It’s something that is universally shared all around the world, and this video is the perfect example.
When one musician from Korea visited Italy, he joined two Italian musicians to play an impromptu version of “Autumn Leaves” that went massively viral.
Even though they had never played together, they still sounded so incredible!
Jun-Hyuk Choi is a Contrabass player from Korea.
Though Choi was on vacation, he had no idea he would go viral by playing with a random jazz band. As the clip begins, he strolls up to talk to his fellow musicians to see what they’re playing. When they get to talking, the young man from Korea tells them that he’s a contrabass player and asks if he can play with them.
The musicians gladly welcome him, and Choi counts them down before they begin playing the most beautiful version of “Autumn Leaves” you’ll ever hear. Right from the get-go, the trio plays flawlessly together and has people stopping to listen.
Choi still has his backpack on, but that doesn’t stop him from stringing a gorgeous melody on his contrabass.
Even more impressive is that the young man usually plays with four strings. Even so, he’s able to master the three-string contrabass with ease. He plays so effortlessly that it seems like he doesn’t have to try!
Plenty of people on the street stop to watch the musicians play “Autumn Leaves.”
Everyone who watches is mesmerized by the stunning music flowing out. As they keep playing their masterpiece, the cameraman turns the camera to capture the magnificent landscapes of Florence, Italy.
When the violinist breaks out into a magical solo, a funny fan interjects herself into the video before the crowd lets out a huge round of applause.
After the solo, Choi thought they were done playing—but the other musicians aren’t letting him off of the hook yet! The violinist cues up another piece and the trio continues to serenade the gathered audience.
They really start to turn it up a notch by playing as fast as they can to keep it interesting—especially the violinist! He showcases his years of experience on the instrument and blows everyone away. Throughout the whole performance, all three do a stellar job for an improvised show.
Ending with a barrage of wonderful notes, the musicians go out with a bang and the onlookers love it.
When the musicians finish, Choi has the biggest smile on his face as he hands the contrabass back to its original owner. You can tell the musicians are quite impressed with the younger backpacker. He’s having the time of his life, and his expression says it all!
It takes a lot of courage to play on someone else’s instrument—not to mention in an unfamiliar environment. Even so, Choi doesn’t bat an eye. He really owned this performance and people all over the internet agreed.
Over 16.5 million people on YouTube viewed the performance of “Autumn Leaves,” with over 203,000 liking the video.
On top of all the views and likes, almost 10,000 left inspiring comments for Choi and the jazz band. I’m sure this is the last thing he expected to happen on his trip to Italy!
