Kodi Lee’s talent can only be matched by his charm. The America’s Got Talent contestant, who is blind and has autism, completely stunned the AGT audience and judges during his audition.
Lee was guided on stage by his mother, Tina Lee, and enthusiastically greeted the judges.
The 22-year-old happily told judges that he was going to send them a song on the piano. His mother explained to judges how they discovered that Lee loved music from a young age.
“His eyes just went huge,” she told them. “He started singing and that’s when I was in tears because that’s when I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s an entertainer.’ So, through music and performing he was able to withstand living in this world because when you’re autistic it’s really hard to do what everyone else does. It actually has saved his life, playing music.”
Lee held his arm as he rocked back and forth and told his friend that he was ready. That’s when he sat down at the piano and completely blew everyone’s mom.
Not only did Lee play exceedingly beautiful but he sang that way as well. Judge Simon Cowell’s jaw immediately dropped as Lee sang Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You.”
The audience immediately started to cheer. The judges were all held spellbound. It was an incredibly moving and inspirational performance. The way Lee hit the high notes in his song was nothing short of perfect.
The audience and judges leaped to their feet when Lee was finished singing his song.
The entire crowd was roaring as people wiped tears away from their face.
“You were wonderful. Not only did we feel the authenticity of what you do but you’re a great inspiration and a great talent and it was amazing,” said judge Howie Mandel.
“I know, everyone needs a voice and an expression and I really feel your heart your passion, Your voice blew everyone away. I just want to say I heard you and I felt you and that way beautiful,” said judge Julianne Hough.
“What just happened there was really extraordinary. I’m going to remember this moment for the rest of my life,” said Cowell.
Judge Gabrielle Union was the last to comment and made sure to praise Tina Lee for raising such and amazing son.
“I’m a new judge this season and I’m also a new mom this year,” Union said. “It’s the toughest job I’ve ever had, it’s also the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. You just want to give your kids, the moon, the stars and the rainbows. Tonight I’m giving you something special.”
That’s when Union reached over to slam down on the Golden Buzzer which will automatically send Lee to the show’s final round.
“You just changed the world,” Union told Lee.
This was the first Golden Buzzer she gave of the season.
“I’ve been saving my golden buzzer for just this moment,” she said. “I wanted an act, I wanted a performer that was going to change the world… and I believe Kodi was that act.”
Lee’s family rushed the stage to congratulate him. Union was so happy for Lee that she also came on stage to give him a hug. The rest of the judges also came up for a hug.
Tina Lee thanked the judges for their kind words and sending him to the final round.
“Thank you Gabrielle, you just made Kodi’s dreams come true,” she said.
