Of all the various singing reality shows, our personal favorite has got to be The Voice.

Although each show has the core component of people competing to be the best singers and performers that they can be, The Voice adds the extra angle of having the coaches compete for contestants as well—and having additional twists in the season such as bling auditions, swaps and knockout rounds just makes things even more interesting!

Though there are plenty of standout contestants on the show, some find ways to wow the judges over and over.

One of those contestants was Kirk Jay from the 2018 season.

As anyone who watches the show knows, his audition started out with all the judges’ backs turned to him.

When the performance starts, Jay begins to sing Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road,” a country song from one of the most popular country bands out there.

As his song goes on, it’s clear that he has exquisite control over his voice and so much passion. Needless to say, Blake Shelton is the first one to hit his button to turn around!

Still, Shelton isn’t the only one.

As the song continues, the performance only gets stronger and stronger.

Perhaps because of Jay’s incredible talent, or because he’s always in a rivalry with Shelton, Adam Levine is the next one to hit his button to turn around.

After that, the only ones left are Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson. Both of them listen intently to the rest of the song… and both of them smash their buzzers right before it ends.

And with that, Jay has turned all four judges around!

When it’s all finally over, Jay introduces himself to the judges—and they immediately all start fighting over him.

As surprising as everyone in the audience finds it, Jay tells everybody that he wants to make only country “until the day he dies”. After everything, Levine says that he wants to see Jay on Shelton’s team—and Shelton gets up and kisses him!

Despite everything, Clarkson and Hudson are still fighting to stay in the running. When it’s finally all over, Jay ends up taking the other judges’ advice.

He decides to go with Shelton, much to Clarkson’s disappointment.

Still, Jay had more chances that season to wow the judges as well!

Later in the season during the knockout rounds, Jay got up again to sing “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young. Once again, Jay’s voice soared effortlessly through the song, filling it with so much soul. The entire time, all of the judges were on the edges of their seats.

Needless to say, it was another show-stopping performance.

Though all of the contestants on The Voice definitely earn their spots there, this one was really something special.

As anyone who follows country music knows, it takes a special kind of soulfulness and delivery to really break through in the genre. Beyond that, it’s rare to see someone take a song by a band as huge as Rascal Flatts and make it so their own. Still, Jay managed to do it all.
