Dancing has always been a part of our lives. Many historians believe that before the arrival of written language, dancing was a way of communicating stories to the next generation. It may also be an essential factor for the development of human civilization.

Moreover, dancing is our way of expressing one’s self or moving to the beat of good music. No matter how random your moves can be, it doesn’t matter. It’s even exciting to try out different dance styles.

One in particular is coordination dancing.

To know about it, these teens performed one in class and it was amazing to watch. Their coordinated movements were spot on.

Looking at the performers, you may ask, why are the hula-hoops on the floor? Are they going to play a game? Also, why are they holding two small sticks in their hand?

These hula-hoops will be used for their performance and the sticks for the beat of the music. There are 12 hula-hoops and 4 hoops in each row. Each row is color coordinated and the group of dancers stands on opposite ends of the hula-hoops.

As the rhythm begins, they sway their hips from side to side while they use the sticks to beat out the tune.

It didn’t matter if one was moving left to right or right to left.

Then, one dancer from each side jumps into the two rings in front of them. Their dance moves are identical but they remain in their own color circles.

Next, they jump into another circle until they reach the end of the circle in the row.

Afterward, they jump back to their original position and go back to the line.

They jump back again into the circle but now move to the second row.

But, now they are joined by the second students in the line and follow the moves of the first students. The students follow these steps for each row until they reach the end.

The first two students who started the dance get to finish first while two more lineups join in. Then, they move back in the line.

The entire performance continues like this.

As you can see, the performance of the students isn’t random. Each student knows what moves to make and when to enter the circle. No wonder they aren’t bumping into each other. They have to stay on the beat and not miss a step. Otherwise, they will ruin the whole dance routine.

Another example of Coordination Dancing are these preschool performers

Instead of colored rings, there are a group of squares. There is only one group, and it is being led by the teacher.

The teacher takes the first step into the squares while using the musical instrument in her hand. Her students follow her lead from behind her. They jump at each square their teacher jumped on.

Soon enough, they were on their own. They just followed the steps by the one in front of them.

The routine continues until the student behind is the one leading the group.

Coordination dancing is a fun and interactive way to develop a child’s rhythm, balance and coordination. They are taught at a very young age for them to store the basic movements and learn the advanced movements as they grow older.

Since the steps can get complicated, teachers start it by introducing one or two simple steps they can follow. The kids can also hold simple items for them to develop rhythm while they are standing.

All Spanish schools are introducing this type of dance to their students. It will be really cool to have it in all schools.
