Parents, teachers, and school staff look forward to an annual event for their students.
It’s the annual Christmas show!
Every year, each class comes up with a performance that highlights the Christmas season.
Some classes sing and dance to a Christmas song. There are classes that put on Christmas musicals.
There are also classes that organize fundraisers or outreach programs.
There are also some schools and classes that organize Christmas fairs.
This is a great idea because it gets the community involved in the spirit of giving and Christmas.
For Doane Academy in Burlington, New Jersey, it’s important to organize these annual Christmas events.
Organizing these events helps the students develop a sense of community.
While it has evolved to become currently relevant, these traditions are still deeply rooted in past influences dating back to the school’s founding in 1837.
These events are not held for the sake of it but to support the students in learning where they really belong and creating a family.
The annual Christmas tradition at Doane Academy always starts with the Holiday Concerts from each grade.
The school follows it up with a Band concert and a Strings concert.
This tradition always ends with the Christmas Mystery, their annual musical featuring the Nativity scene.
In this video, the wonderful students from the Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First-grade classes kick off the Holiday Concert.
Dressed in red and green dresses and suits, the students perform the 1950s rocking hit, “Ev’rybody’s Goin’ On A Sleigh Ride.”
It’s a great upbeat song that will get you on your feet dancing or swaying to the music.
It’s the perfect song for a Holiday Concert.
“Ev’rybody’s goin’ on a sleigh ride.
Come on along and ride with us!
Let’s ride!
Yeah, let’s ride!”
It’s not a very popular Christmas or holiday song but it doesn’t matter.
It was an easy song for the young children to learn and it’s so easy to choreograph dance moves with this one. Or should we say, arm movements?
It’s important to use easy movements with this performance.
Standing in front of a crowd can be daunting for young children.
And to have them sing and dance in front of people?
Whoa. That is scary.
Easy words and easy movements, that’s the trick to a good performance, especially since these students had to learn nine songs for the Holiday Concert.
That is not easy, even for an adult.
These kids are great troopers. They performed each song so beautifully, too.
Their teachers probably teach them to have fun during the performance as well.
It’s amazing how almost all of them really sang and danced throughout the performance.
Their parents are definitely proud of them.
They probably had to learn the lyrics and dance moves of each song so their children can have someone to practice with at home.
Great job, parents!
What did you think of their performance?
