High school. This is the time when lasting friendships are made, hobbies and talents honed, and lasting memories forged. Teenagers don’t realize it yet but once they hit their thirties, they’ll look back fondly.
It was the same for these high kicking girls from Leander High School. This dance squad had them bonding and spending so much time together.
The Connally Stars dance team dazzled their school with a high energy routine that worked so much better than a cup of joe.
With over 2.5 million views, the girls strut in a single line, white boots and green skirts with hats calling out to all the eyes inside that gymnasium that they were there for a great time.
“So impressed by these girls, doing this in their free time in addition to schoolwork. I admire your dedication, discipline and skill!”
Says a viewer.
Count the number of girls before they start dancing. You can hear someone counting off as they assemble and march forward as dainty as can be.
They strike a pose sideways with heads down almost taking up the entire length of the basketball court. And once the music hits, it’s chin up and full energy all the way.
Better stretch those legs well!
The song is “Cotton Eye Joe” by Rednex. The artist’s name and song title already tells you what kind of jam it is.
It is such a catchy song and according to Mental Floss,
“Cotton Eye Joe” was a massive hit for Rednex—a group of Swedish techno musicians playing dress-up in straw hats and dirty overalls. The bizarre, fiddle-fueled novelty was actually a reworking of an old American folk song, and thanks to its undeniable catchiness, it do-si-doed all the way to No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.”
So I guess these girls, all of them, decided it was a good song to dance to.
Big smiles all around as they raise their right legs in the air nearly shoulder height to the one next to them.
And the balance! Not a single wobbly dancer there!
This is very country fair and those nonstop succession of kicks as they move from left to right and back will have anyone’s mood immediately lifted for sure. This is great!
Rico Ten commented,
“One of those high kicks and I’d be on my way to the Emergency Room, and these girls do it effortlessly–so much practice and hard work. Just fantastic.”
Imagine the hours spent just stretching and practicing!
The formations are so quick yet smooth, and when they form a circle with arms on each others’ backs with a raised leg and bow, the crowd explodes with cheers for the dancers.
All the bouncing, kicking and leg twirling are done to the super up tempo beat of the song and somehow, the girls aren’t sweating nor gasping for air.
The final pose draws cheers and these girls just gave them a dance to remember.
