Talk about a phenomenal opening performance at the 2017 American Music Awards! None other than Kelly Clarkson and Pink performed together for the first time ever and it wasn’t only a great start to the show, it was a tear-jerking tribute as well.
Before the two musical superstars started their performance of “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M, actor Jamie Foxx kicked off the show and praised the actions of first responders who were present at the scenes of terrible incidents and natural disasters.
“This year more than perhaps any other in recent history, we needed the power of music to help us heal, from hurricanes, wildfires, hate, hatred-fueled violence… 2017 was the year that tested our faith. In these moments of crisis, heroes emerged,” he said. With us tonight, are some of our first responders, who ran towards the danger.”
“As this year comes to a close, we look forward to 2018 with hope,” he added. “For even as we mourn those who are lost, we know this — together our strength will pull us through, together we shall overcome the pain, together we can unite as a people and a nation.”
After the quite emotional introduction – especially with the first responders on the stage – Kelly Clarkson and Pink couldn’t wait to perform.
The two vocal powerhouses perfectly sing a very moving version of the popular song, and the message that the song spreads is a perfect reminder that everyone is in this together.
Pink started singing but was quickly joined by Kelly a couple of seconds later. The two sang beautifully and with powerful emotion. Kelly and Pink then strolled to a smaller stage amongst the crowd and embraced in a very heartfelt hug at the end of the performance.
The performance was met with an astounding and deafening applause, touching the hearts of everyone in the audience and those watching at home.
“This is how a duet is supposed to be. They didn’t try to outdo one another they just both sang beautifully. I love how happy Kelly looks you can tell she really appreciates the moment! Good job both ladies,” Hakim Nelson-Wilder wrote.
“Two of the most honest and kind people around in the industry, two of the few artists who hasn’t (sic) given into fame and two of the most talented vocalists duet together this is a dream come true. Absolutely amazing,” Alexander Schiöll wrote in the YouTube comments.
