Years ago, Julian Lennon, son of world-renowned singer John Lennon of The Beatles, vowed never to perform his father’s song “Imagine” unless it was the “end of the world.” But, he broke this vow when he finally sang the famous song in support of the Global Citizen’s Stand Up for Ukraine campaign.

The song “Imagine” was part of The Beatles’ 1971 album of the same title. According to John Lennon, much of this song’s content and lyrics were from his wife, Yoko Ono. It is a song that talks about imagining a world without borders, no religion, no materialism, and a world with peace.

Despite his musical vow to never sing “Imagine,” Julian decided to finally perform it publicly all for a good cause.

He was chosen to perform the final number in the said event.

In the uploaded video of his performance, Julian Lennon shared notes stating the reason why he decided to sing the song.

“…the War on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy. As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most significant way I could.”

In his rendition of the song, Julian Lennon was accompanied by guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.

Together, they performed a heartfelt version of John Lennon’s iconic song.

His post continued:

“So today, for the first time ever, I publicly performed my Dad’s song, IMAGINE. Why now, after all these years? — I had always said, that the only time I would ever consider singing ‘IMAGINE’ would be if it was the ‘End of the World’…But also because his lyrics reflect our collective desire for peace worldwide.”

Julian hit it right with his words and truly, the song was a way for the world to be free from all the chaos if they could only imagine even for just a few minutes.

“Because within this song, we’re transported to a space, where love and togetherness become our reality, if but for a moment in time… The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are all hoping for…” Julian continued.
