Ah, magic. Do you believe in it? Do you think that there are some people out there who are able to bend the rules of physics, logic, and probability with their magical ways?
Whether you do or not, it’s always pretty fun to see a good magician do his or her work well. Whether it’s actually some kind of magic power, an incredibly well-timed and elaborate set-up, or the fastest hands in the business, a good magic trick can brighten anyone’s day.
One of the hardest kinds of magic to try an understand is when they can read your mind. It’s just impossible to explain!
When one magician went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he shocked the whole audience not only with his mind-reading abilities but with his ability to summon random objects seemingly out of thin air!
Joshua Jay’s career as a magician is just about as decorated as it gets. He holds the Guinness World Record for most cards found in a shuffled deck in a minute’s time. He was able to find 21 cards in that short period of time, and no magician has been able to beat that impressive record since.
Joshua has even fooled Penn and Teller, arguably the most recognizable names in the magic world, on their show Fool Us.
Now, if that doesn’t give him ultimate bragging rights, then I honestly don’t know what would.
For his tricks on The Tonight Show, Joshua put some power into Jimmy’s hands. So much so that the late-night host started getting a little power hungry with his ability to do magic!
The first trick he does is simple. He asks Jimmy to choose between two socks. One with a tasty treat printed on it, and one with ferocious sharks on it. No one knew what he was going to do with the socks once Jimmy chose one, but once he does? Let’s just say that things could have gone south very quickly with this first trick.
Then, it’s time to bring in the audience to help get the mind reading started.
I don’t want to give the whole thing away, but with a little bit of help from random audience members, Joshua Jay’s talent leaves everyone in pure awe.
These folks could have given any answer out of 195 options, but two times out of two, Joshua and Jimmy were able to find the correct answer.
Then the next trick really gets you scratching your head. How could he even plan for this? How did he know what would need to be hiding underneath those black cloths?
You can see the fear in Jimmy’s eyes when the malicious audience members give their answer to the last question.
Then, when the cloth is lifted, a huge surprise is there waiting for him, and he immediately tenses up.
It’s impossible to understand how he could even begin to pull this off. How does one even begin to plan for this, or to conspire with the audience? One has to assume that he really can read minds!
Have you ever seen anything like this before? I couldn’t believe my eyes – it truly is a sight to see! I may have to reconsider whether or not I believe in magic. I always thought that it was just a bunch of smoke and mirrors, but now? I’m not sure.
