Music is an amazing thing. The beats, rhythms, and emotions are universal; they’re able to dance around someone’s soul, mesmerizing them with a beauty that has touched many hearts before. But music isn’t just enjoyable— it has a way of touching your spirit and calming the nerves; it is the power of healing at its finest.
A couple years ago, country singer Josh Turner demonstrated the healing power of music when he called upon a special guest to help him perform an emotional rendition of his hit song “The Long Black Train.”
A few months before coming to Nashville, Turner watched a news story that introduced him to Logan Blade.
Logan is a 21-year-old who was diagnosed with severe autism at the age of two. The condition made it impossible for him to talk and express himself, but he had learned to communicate using music— mainly his favorite Josh Turner tunes.
Logan spent most of his days dreaming about performing his favorite song— “The Long Black Train”— with his idol onstage.
When Turner learned he would be performing in Logan’s home state, the singer contacted the young man’s family and told them he had a special surprise.
On the night of the concert, everything went smoothly. No one suspected anything odd— until Turner suddenly stopped to address the crowd on stage.
The singer reminisced about writing “The Long Black Train” in college before he had made it big.
At the time, Turner didn’t think anyone else would care about the song— but as he traveled around the country and talked with his fans, he learned the song had helped thousands of people— including Logan Blade.
Turner tells the audience about Logan’s story and invites the young man on stage to help him sing the song.
When Logan opens his mouth, he shocks the crowd with his deep, velvety voice.
Gone is the non-verbal teen— and in his place is a proud country star.
“Just being around him, hearing his story… it’s hard to put into words,” the singer told FOX17 News. “It’s just really gratifying and fulfilling for me to be able to see a young man like that, that is struggling in some ways.”
“Due in part, a little bit, by what I’ve done musically, he’s been able to become a different person.”
Since being uploaded to YouTube, Logan’s performance has been viewed over 280,000 times.
People love the way Logan is able to connect with the music, but they also love the tenderness Turner showed to young, disabled fan. Comments on the video read:
“Went to school with Logan and graduated 2 years before him but, he Is a great kid! Had a smile on my face the entire time he was on stage, Not a fan of country music but Josh Turner has my respect for being such a great celebrity.”
