There are many different kinds of people in this world. Some are outgoing and love to be around people at all times. They thrive on attention, conversation, and being in large groups of friends and strangers.
Then, there are others who find it really difficult to simply make conversation with one person. It’s not that introverts don’t like people or company, it’s just that it’s much more difficult to spend time with folks and feel comfortable enough having real conversations and expending energy on socializing.
Some of the biggest stars and most talented performers in history have been known introverts when they step off of the stage.
Prince, David Bowie, and Michael Jackson were all very shy when they weren’t on stage performing for huge crowds of people.
There’s something about being on stage that can turn you into a totally different person. For these performers, the stage was home, and it brought out their very best sides.
Even with that knowledge, you’d never guess that this awkward 20-year-old was such a good performer until he opens his mouth.
Joseph O’Brien is a young man from Kentucky. When the judges first see him, they think that he is a handsome young man, but there’s something a bit quirky about him. It’s almost as if he’s overcompensating for buckets and buckets of anxiety about being on stage.
However, he smiles through their questions, blushing a bit when he has to admit that he’s never even kissed a girl before.
He doesn’t let the judges’ interrogation get to him, though. He walks up to the keyboard set up for him and begins to confidently play “Hello” by Lionel Richie.
His voice is light but strong. You can hear some nerves during some parts, but it’s mostly a truly touching performance. As he sings this longing love song, you can tell that he’s really looking for someone to say these words to in his real life.
Now that he’s had this opportunity to show his true self on a stage for this lovely performance, do you think that maybe he’ll have the confidence to ask out a girl?
The YouTube comments show that viewers are really rooting for him, with sentiments like,
“He is such a sweet young man. I hope that he finds a girl who will love him and respect him. He will make a special girl really happy one day. God bless him always.”
The judges are totally honest when they tell him it wasn’t a perfect audition, but they have so much faith in him and loved his energy and personality so much, that they think that he deserves the chance to really prove his full potential and come back to perform again.
It’s always so great to see someone so shy and reserved be able to show their heart and soul in a way that they’re able to express who they really are inside. It must have taken a lot of courage to get up there in front of all of those people, but it was so worth it. Don’t you think so?
I’m willing to bet that Joseph gets better and better with each performance following this memorable audition. When an introvert gets on a stage like this, it can get addictive and incredibly satisfying… hopefully, now he’ll be able to chase that happiness!
