How many times have you heard the song “Despacito”?

I think I hear it at least two times a day still and the song is well over a year old. It was basically the biggest song of summer 2017 and it still hasn’t died yet.

The song was the #2 top song of 2017 according to Billboard and remained at #1 for 16 consecutive weeks on the Hot 100 Songs chart.

The song, originally sung by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee, blew up when international pop star Justin Bieber was featured on the remix of the song.

Since then, the video has gotten over 5 billion views on YouTube and over 1 billion streams on Spotify.

With the song’s popularity, it comes as no surprise that one singer would use it as their choice to audition for The Voice.

Jorge Eduardo grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico with a Latin Grammy-nominated mariachi father and musical mother. He currently lives in Dallas, Texas where he performs as a wedding and event singer.

He’s familiar with The Voice already – he previously received a four-chair turn on Mexico’s “La Voz” and made it to the final four on J Balvin‘s team.

Now, he’s made his debut on the American version of the show and he impressed one judge so much, she turned around in under five seconds.

On the third episode of the new season of The Voice, Jorge made waves when he sang Despacito.

Tú, tú eres el imán y yo soy el metal
Me voy acercando y voy armando el plan
Solo con pensarlo se acelera el pulso (Oh yeah)

For those of you who don’t speak Spanish, that is:

You, you are the imam and I am the metal
I’m getting closer and I’m putting together the plan
Just by thinking it makes the pulse quicken (Oh yeah)

He was only four seconds into the song before coach Kelly Clarkson slammed her red button and turned around to see Jorge.

As she listened to him sang, Kelly shouted to fellow coaches Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys, and Adam Levine that they were stupid for not turning their chair.

Kelly even got out of her chair to dance around while Jorge continued to sing “Despacito” and I can’t blame her! His voice is amazing and I’m sure Luis Fonsi would be proud if he saw this video.

The other three coaches didn’t wind up turning around for Jorge, but all he needed was the support of Kelly to make it through.

He was able to join Team Kelly and got the chance to prove himself on this season of The Voice.

What do you think of his voice?

Since he was picked to be on Team Kelly, Jorge went on to perform in the Battle and Knockout Rounds of The Voice.

During the Battle Round, he versed Amber Sauer on “Starving” and in the Knockout Round, he sang “Adorn.”

Sadly for Jorge, his journey on The Voice has reached its end, but you can enjoy his last performance on the show.
