There are voices in this world that can take a crowd’s breath away, and Jonathan Antoine has one of them.
Jonathan is a classically-trained tenor from the United Kingdom who’s known across the globe for his singing talent. It’s possible you recognize him – but if you don’t, likely you won’t forget him once you hear how stunning of a vocalist he is.
One video that’s circulating the internet features Jonathan Antoine performing a rendition of the classic, “Unchained Melody.” It’s a chilling combination you don’t want to miss.
The performance took place in Thousand Oaks, California at the Fred Kavli Theater.
Jonathan can be seen standing confidently on the stage, however, confidence isn’t something he’s always had. He’s struggled with his weight since he was very young, and being teased by classmates was difficult to endure. But according to the singer’s website, he was also known for being “The boy with the incredible voice” at school.
At 13-years-old Jonathan developed the ability to sing tenor. Using this talent, he amazed people at the Stratford & East London Music Festival in 2010 and went home as “Young Musician of The Year.”
He had jaws dropping to the floor when he auditioned on season 6 of BGT.
Jonathan was just 17-years-old walking shyly onto the stage in front of the crowd, judges, and millions of viewers at home. Fortunately, he wasn’t alone. He was part of a singing duo called Jonathan and Charlotte – so had his friend by his side.
Everyone seemed skeptical at first, including the hard to please Simon Cowell.
But once Jonathan unleashed his voice singing “The Prayer” with Charlotte all their minds were changed. In the end, Simon told the teen, “Seriously, you have an outstandingly good voice … Jonathan, you are a future star.”
That audition has more than 124,000,000 views on YouTube.
Although Jonathan and Charlotte came in second on BGT, and didn’t take home the champion crown – it still catapulted them into successful careers.
Over the years, Jonathan’s released albums that have reached number one, he’s toured and beautifully performed in front of big crowds – and he also openly speaks about the “importance of self-worth and a general loving attitude and outlook on life.”
On Jonathan’s website he shared:
“There’s only one way to express what music gives me. It gives me purpose, it gives me point. When I sing, I can just be me.”
Jonathan’s vocals are powerful enough to spread goosebumps across any room, but just wait until you hear them paired with the 1955 classic, “Unchained Melody.”
In front of a seated crowd, he sings the tune on stage with talented instrumentalists providing the music. And when Jonathan hits the high notes, it’s unbelievably chilling.
Audience members are so moved they toss roses onto the stage moments after one of these high notes. They also rise to their feet at the end to give Jonathan a standing ovation.
