Playing the guitar is already complicated enough—but for Jon Gomm, it’s just the beginning.
The guitar extraordinaire uses every part of his acoustic guitar in this powerful performance to make every sound you can imagine. I’ve never seen anything like it—this is seriously mind-boggling!
This musician plays an incredible song, simultaneously strumming his guitar and using it like a drum set.
For those who don’t know, Gomm is an English singer-songwriter known for turning his guitar into an all-encompassing music machine. In this breathtaking performance, the multi-faceted artist uses every part of his guitar to create sounds that are so unique.
At the start of the video, Gomm plays some magical riffs while bending the strings just right to get unique sounds.
After playing normally for the first 20 seconds, he uses his guitar pick to scratch the side of his guitar and creates even more unique harmonies.
That’s when Gomm starts to play the guitar one-handed before using the instrument’s tuning as part of the song.
It’s hard to believe anyone could play the guitar this well, but he just makes it look easy. If you were to hear this without the video, it would sound like there was a full band of instruments playing.
He taps, pounds and scratches his instrument, all while keeping the melody of the song playing on the guitar.
Gomm puts on a freestyle guitar clinic for the first minute and a half. As if that weren’t enough, he then starts singing in the most gorgeous voice.
When Gomm begins singing, his voice has the crowd completely mesmerized.
As if the advanced guitar playing wasn’t enough, the gifted musician shows us that he also has a phenomenal voice! Gomm’s silky smooth vocals add another amazing variable to the already complicated music. It’s like he’s playing three instruments at once all while singing!
Some artists just have all the talent, and Gomm is definitely one of them.
He reaches his arm across his body while continuing to beat on his acoustic guitar. Gomm also continues to make tuning part of the song, twisting his gears to give an electronic-like sound to the music.
There’s a good reason why Gomm is so advanced on his instrument—he started playing at the tender age of two years old.
Starting off on the ukelele, Gomm found his love and inspiration for music as a toddler. The child prodigy played his first ukulele at the age of two and picked up his first guitar when he was four.
About three minutes into the video, Gomm begins using both hands to play the strings on the neck of the guitar.
This enables him to play various high notes simultaneously and it sounds spectacular. He goes through the entire song turning his guitar into a music box, pulling out sounds you never would have thought could come from an acoustic guitar!
The video of Gomm playing “Passionflower” has been viewed almost 17.4 million times, with 222,000 liking it.
Tens of thousands of viewers also left comments for the talented musician, and many couldn’t believe all the sounds he produced with just his guitar. Don’t forget to check out his YouTube channel where he posts tons of outstanding content for his 188,000 subscribers.
