Can you believe it has already been 40 years since Grease was released in theaters?

The film that solidified John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in superstardom was released in theaters on June 16, 1978.

Grease tells the tale of a goody two shoes named Sandy who falls for a bad boy greaser named Danny.

The musical (based on the Broadway production of the same name) has numerous big hits, like “Grease,” “Summer Nights,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “Greased Lightning,” “You’re the One That I Want,” and more.

Did you know that “Hopelessly Devoted to You” was not in the show’s original stage production? It was written for Olivia Newton-John because producers wanted her to have a big ballad, as Olivia was already a famous singer.

Not only that, the famous dance during “You’re the One That I Want” would not be the same if it weren’t for the movie’s star – John Travolta.

While they were staging the scene, the choreographer wanted another move for the sequence but couldn’t think of what they wanted.

That is where John stepped in! If you’ve seen Saturday Night Fever or Pulp Fiction, you know that John likes to dance. He grew up learning a lot of moves, so he suggested a box step for him and Olivia to do during “You’re the One That I Want.”

John revealed this interesting bit of Grease trivia while he was promoting his new film, Gotti, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

John and host Jimmy Fallon were discussing the 40th-anniversary of Grease when John shared this news.

Even though both men were wearing suits and not black spandex and leather, they managed to nail the move together and made themselves laugh while doing it!

It is probably for the best they didn’t wear spandex for this one, as Olivia Newton-John famously had to be sewn into her pants for the end scene in Grease, as they were that tight.

I wonder, does John ever practice some of the moves from Grease in his free time?

Jimmy loved it so much, he asked if John would be able to teach him the move! Being a good sport, John obviously said yes.

The video was posted on The Tonight Show’s Facebook page and since it was shared, it has gotten over 4.4 million views, 60,000 likes, and over 15,000 shares.
