Times Square was bursting with talent when these two superstar performers came together for this magical duet.
When it comes to music icons, it doesn’t get much better than Alicia Keys and John Mayer. The two mega-celebrities have a whopping 22 Grammys between the two of them, Keys with 15 and Mayer with seven. Given that, it’s no surprise that the two of them teaming up for this performance in Time Square blew the lid off of New York City!
The video starts with Alicia Keys on the piano playing her popular song “If I Ain’t Got You.”
That’s when another Grammy-winning artist, Questlove from The Roots, comes on stage to play the drums.
When Keys announces that Mayer will also be joining her on stage, the crowd goes wild.
Now, with a total of 27 Grammys between the artists on stage, they begin performing “If I Ain’t Got You” in brilliant fashion. The three talented musicians continue doing the song, but this time Mayer takes lead with the singing.
Keys comes in to join him and their voices together are out of this world.
The rendition of the multi-platinum song that was released in 2003 is sensational.
After going through the Keys song, they suddenly switch to Mayer’s huge hit, “Gravity.”
The transition into “Gravity” is incredibly smooth, with Questlove still on the drums, Keys and Mayer team up to deliver a jaw-dropping mix of the two songs. We’ve never seen a mashup this good! When it’s Keys’ turn to display her vocals on “Gravity,” you’re bound to get full-body chills.
They go back and forth between the two songs, all while perfectly nailing every aspect of each one.
The way Keys and Mayer vibe off of each other is unbelievable—it’s almost like they’re working off of the same brain!
The energy of this performance is through the roof.
All the people in Times Square are frozen in awe by the musical masterpiece. At the end of the performance, both artists let loose and their voices soar to the highest level possible. It’s no surprise both of these artists will go down in history as some of the greatest of all time. There are not many musicians that can perform like this.
