On American Idol, contestants often get to celebrate some of the biggest moments in their career.
However, not everyone in these contestants lives are able to travel to Hollywood to show off their support. It can be costly to book flights and stays in hotels. So, often times, people have to show their support from afar.
For American Idol contestant Johanna Jones, she thought that her boyfriend wasn’t going to be able to be there for her biggest performance thus far. For Hollywood week, she decided to sing “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak for the judges.
Johanna was under the impression that her boyfriend, Matt, had to miss the performance because he was busy with finals. She was pretty upset that he was going to miss it, as she considered him to be “the one.”
Lucky for Johanna, Matt didn’t miss a thing! He got to watch her from backstage and then when she was done singing, he walked out to surprise her. She was ecstatic to see him, but that wasn’t the last surprise.
Matt then got down on one knee to propose! To say Johanna was surprised would be an understatement. Johanna’s mom could be heard from the audience saying “this isn’t happening right now!” They were all totally shocked.
Katy Perry was even so surprised and excited, she dropped to the floor and started to cry. It really seemed to be an emotional moment overall!
Of course, Johanna said “yes” and everyone was excited by her response.
Even if Johanna doesn’t make it all the way to the end of this season on American Idol, she will always have this memory. That is one way to celebrate a great performance on the show! We can’t believe this doesn’t happen more often.
The video was shared on Facebook and has gotten over 2 million views, with an additional 1.2 million views on YouTube. The post got over 10,000 reactions on Facebook, because who doesn’t love love? One YouTube user wrote:

When Luke Bryan asked Johanna what she did to prepare before she sang, she told him she had an unusual trick. She likes to eat a bag of potato chips right before she sings!
This prompted Katy to ask if Johanna was her spirit animal because she had an empty bag of chips underneath the judges’ table.
Johanna said that she eats the chips to help with inflammation. According to Katy, this was the oldest trick in the book. She used to do it as well back in the day.
For her audition, Johanna Jones chose to sing “I’m Not the Only One” from Sam Smith’s 2014 album, In the Lonely Hour. It was a great choice to show off her unique singing technique!
