His ardor for the stage inspired the creation of ‘Stages,’ an album compiling Broadway’s finest hits.
He shared on his website, “Theater and musical theater have always held a special place in my heart. These were songs I longed to sing since my high school days.”
Nestled among the tracks on ‘Stages’ was the exquisite “All I Ask of You” from ‘Phantom of the Opera.’
But Josh knew all along he couldn’t tackle it alone.
Soon, the anticipation buzzed inside the venue when the Stages Live event was finally announced.
Fans eagerly anticipated witnessing their beloved Broadway melodies brought to life by none other than Josh Groban.
During the show, he revealed to the audience, “When we were making this record and I was going to record this song, I knew that this duet had to be recorded in a very, very special way. And, it had to be recorded with a very special singer.”
The “very special singer” he was referring to was none other than Kelly Clarkson.
A fascinating tidbit: ‘Phantom of the Opera’ marked Clarkson’s maiden musical theater experience, adding a profound sentiment to the performance.
The poignant “All I Ask of You” was a duet between the characters Raoul and Christine DaaĂ©.
Kelly candidly confessed her lifelong dream of portraying Christine, a dream that Josh, with his collaboration, helped her fulfill.
