If you wanted to find someone who never listened to Extreme’s most famous song, you would have a hard time doing so.
That’s right, just the mention of the band’s name brings “More Than Words” to mind. We all loved the 1990 hit song—but did you ever think how that ballad would sound if a little comedy was added to it?
One of the American most famous television hosts and an equally famous comedian will show it together.
Not only did they recreate the whole video, but they also made it romantic and hilarious at the same time. Aside from being the sixth permanent host on the long-running Tonight Show, Fallon has always been involved in comedy. That resulted in two comedy albums and five books. He’s won numerous awards for his work on television and has never been shy in showing off his funny side.
Now, imagine Fallon working with Jack Black.
If you guessed that it must result in a special kind of warm humor, you were right. The voice behind Kung Fu Panda belongs to a Grammy Award-winning comedian who’s given us a lot of good laughs throughout his decades-long career.
The Fallon-Black duo decided to recreate the “More Than Words” music video, and they’ve done more than that.
We dare to say that their cover is so good that it’s almost a tribute to the beloved song.
True artists know the right amount of “funny-ing it up.”
It’s amazing how both Fallon and Black knew the right measure while making the video funny. They don’t exaggerate, but a couple of funny facial expressions here and there do the trick.
You’re going to laugh, trust us.
From the amplifier closeup in the very beginning to holding a lighter in the air—it’s a complete reenactment of the memorable song that peaked at No. 1 on US Billboard Hot 100, soon after entering the list at number 81. The original video was filmed in black and white and so is this one. Both Jimmy and Jack both have long hair.
We knew that Black was a good singer, but Jimmy’s picking is what surprised us the most.
His guitar playing is quite impressive. It was all aired on The Tonight Show on May 4, 2015. Five years later, the video has garnered almost 30 million YouTube views. The teacher from the School of Rock has amazed us all in this one!
You combine the golden voice with Fallon’s talented fingers, and it comes out as an excellent video with just about enough fun moments to brighten your day.
What Black and Fallon did here, goes beyond the comedy. It’s not a secret that Jack wanted to be a rock musician, so he couldn’t have just make a funny rendition. He had to let his talent shine through as well.
Laughter and comedy aside, Jack can’t hide his beautiful voice—just listen to his impressive vibrato around the two-minute mark!
The original just isn’t complete without listening to this afterward.
We love it when Jimmy does classic songs with his guests. Just think about his cover of David Bowie’s “Life On Mars” with Chris Martin.
It must be a great feeling to have so many versatile talents and to be able to put them to good use.
Keep up the good work, Jimmy, your creativity never fails to entertain us!
