One of the most American moments we can experience is during the National Anthem. A moment of pride for our country and usually, the hope of a good sports game after! When you have a powerhouse vocalist performing, goosebumps are almost guaranteed!
People put a lot of time into their National Anthem performances!
For big sporting events like Super Bowls and large college games, the singers will often have a team of people that helps them prepare something unique and stunning!
Demi Lovato, for example, performed at the 2020 Super Bowl but with a hidden twist.
Most of us watched the chilling and powerful performance that Demi gave at this year’s game. She was absolutely stunning in a white suit with a voice just as powerful as she looked!
Adam Neely, a music theory YouTuber, notes that Demi was referencing Whitney Houstons 1991 rendition of the song.
Neely has an understanding of music that few can boast of. He breaks down the song and explains that Demi used Whitney’s arrangement but made it a little more pop-modern! All of this goes to show that singing the National Anthem isn’t taken lightly!
Writing, singing, and atmosphere all play a role in an incredible performance that celebrates our nation. Ultimately, there are as many ways to perform the anthem as there are people on the earth!
Jennifer Nettles gave her own stunning performance at the Tennessee – Virginia Tech game!
Nettles is a renowned vocalist, most notably known for her time spent as a part of the group Sugarland. With a history of incredible singing behind her, it makes sense that performance was one for the books (and got nearly 1 million views on YouTube)!
Everyone rises and takes off their hats for the performance.
The announcer explains all the accolades that Nettles has earned (Grammy, anyone?) and then “steps aside” to let Nettles show her skills. With cheers and a quick hush, Nettles starts singing.
A crowd of thousands is immediately silent as they listen.
With the entire stadium decked out with special pieces of paper, they all raise them at the same time to create a massive picture across the entire stadium! A flag can be seen, made of red, white and blue, with a big USA right in the middle!
Fireworks, a powerhouse vocalist, and a beautiful display across the stadium all combine for quite the show.
Nettles’ performance is distinctly different than Demi’s, or anyone else’s! The wonderful thing about performances like this is that they always turn out different and special.
Watching all these incredible singers is sure to give you goosebumps at least once!
No matter the singer, we can all appreciate the sacrifice that many have given for us to be able to sing the song as we do. When we all stand together and sing, it’s a reminder that we are all Americans.
