This was a rainy day parade like no other.
Students from Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Alabama have this overwhelming passion for getting people pumped up and hyped for a football game. So when these students had the opportunity to perform at the Magic City Classic Parade in Birmingham, AL, they abandoned themselves to the energy and got down to business.
High school students from Jefferson Davis Vols Marching Band got a special honor when they participated in the Magic City Classic Parade. The high schoolers are so talented and their presence in the parade commanded joy for all attendees.
Justin Heideman leads the students. He is a high school drum major and a viral sensation for his skills. The rain did not stop Justin and his fellow students from showing off their moves down that street!
All eyes on the commanding march of these guys.
They’ve got a unique set of moves. Flowing and strutting down the street, the rain may as well have melted on their skins. It’s a smoking march of a performance and those onlookers are loving it.
17-year-old Justin Heideman gained national attention thanks to an Instagram video uploaded by @Pubby LongWay showing Justin and his other drum majors performing that currently has over 675k views.
In an interview with ABC3340, Justin said that the morning after the video was uploaded, he had gained 800 followers and by the end of the day, had over 10,000. Chalk it up to skills.
An observant viewer pointed out,
“Justin looks like he has a cold. But that’s ok, he’s fighting thru it. The whole band is bringing it and I am enjoying it all… keep up the good work and know you put smiles on a lot of folks faces.”
If he did, he just burned through the virus.
Justin’s online fame is still growing yet he is quick to direct the attention back to the rest of the band who lovingly refers to him as “Vanilla Funk”. He says that he does not feel that his skills are anything special, and that he is just doing what others have done before him.
Another viewer commented,
“Justin has so much damn swagger and is so on point with everything it’s mesmerizing.”
Don’t you wish you could walk and move like that?
They march with purpose, faces fixed forward as if on a mission. A mission to stun everyone watching. The Magic City Classic Parade is a yearly tradition held leading up to a rival football game so it’s the perfect time to show off.
According to the parade’s event page, “The Magic City Classic is the largest historically black college and university (HBCU) football game in the country”. There’s also a kickoff show, a parade, a tailgate party and the halftime show. The Jefferson Davis High School Marching Band was invited to participate and they took full advantage. They did not disappoint.
