Adolphe Sax had no idea what a warm-sounding, everlasting piece of brass he was about to create.

Of course, we’re talking about the saxophone—it’s versatile and present in all music genres from folk music to swing and jazz, all the way to hard rock and punk.

It takes a lot of skill and talent to retrace our musical steps, take the best out of 40s jazz and bring it to 21st century Prague.

That’s exactly what Eric Marienthal does in this phenomenal performance of “Body and Soul” by Johnny Green. Accompanied by The Bobby Shew Quintet, Marienthal managed to put The Loop Jazz Club on fire with an awesome saxophone solo.

The famous club in the heart of Prague has already been visited by many famous artists such as Quentin Tarantino, Lalo Schifrin, Brian de Palma, Randy Brecker, Joe Lovano, Vince Mendoza, Gordon Goodwin and many more who came in pursuit of some great jazz.

A glimpse of the atmosphere can be felt in the video, and we can only assume just how great acoustics are.

Dim lights, gentlemen on stage, classy outfits, and their shiny instruments are all a recipe for success.

For those who don’t know, Marienthal also plays the guitar, flute, clarinet and piano.

Many talented musicians can play several instruments.

Then again, this Los Angeles-based contemporary saxophonist found his musical soulmate when his father bought him a $400 Selmer saxophone and enrolled him in Corona Del Mar High School.

It surely paid off, because Marienthal went on to study at Berklee College of Music, release 15 studio albums, and two of them won Grammy Awards.

Luckily, Eric was also interested in passing on his knowledge and has since written several instructional books. You can also find some of his instructional videos online, all published by Warner Brothers Publications.

It’s a non-profit organization in California that works with people who have suffered traumatic head injuries.

Well, if anything can help during the healing process—music can.

We’re dazzled by the unbelievable power of the saxophone—in his capable hands, it can make you feel a whole variety of emotions.

One moment, the sound is smoky and low, and then it switches to a bright, clear and powerful tone. It took us to a magical place.

So many emotions change on Marienthal’s face throughout the performance.

The atmosphere is dreamy, pleasant and full of jazz. What a show! We don’t see the audience, but the loudness of the applause says more than words ever could.

This is the kind of performance that tickles the mind and makes you feel butterflies in your stomach.
