Can drumming can be as innovative as any other art? You bet it can.

Drummer David Dockery is living proof. We found a video of him drumming alongside a dialogue from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever heard.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if every line of dialogue was synchronized with its own drum rhythm?

Not many people have thought of this before, but the result is pretty amazing.

We’re certainly not used to hearing drums while we watch the dialogue unfolding in our favorite movie.

This is definitely unique, and Dockery makes all these familiar lines sound completely different with his drumming in the background.

For those who don’t know, Dockery is a drummer and guitarist from Ireland.

His YouTube channel has 123,000 subscribers and is full of different videos of Dockery doing what he does best. Still, not all of his videos are like this one—some of them are covers of famous songs and don’t include any TV clips. The talented lad from Ireland covered “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” “The Twilight Zone,” some Justin Timberlake songs and Bruno Mars songs to name a few.

Still, the different rhythms he plays will make you feel different about the movie character.

The video proves that rhythm and dynamics are just as important to acting as they are to music.

More importantly, rhythm doesn’t have to mean the monotonous repeating of drum beats. It can be open and free form. Dockery’s creativity emphasizes some parts of the dialogue, and we couldn’t be more impressed by the way he manages to turn every line into perfect drumming.

Be sure to watch out for the drumming part that accompanies the sentence “The lifetime supply of chocolate.” That bit was phenomenal!

It would be interesting to see Dockery drumming along to a political debate or some other kind of show. Wouldn’t it be hilarious to hear drumming to the toe scene from “The Big Lebowski,” for example?

In any case, this video shows that beats and patterns are all around us in everyday life.

David makes it sound like there is so much rhythm in the way they speak.

Seems like we ought to start listening because everything around us is music. He didn’t come up with a name for this drumming-over-talking routine yet, but we’re guessing we’re going to see more and more of it online in the coming days. It’s funny how in the end, Dockery just flips his drumstick as if the part he played was no big deal.

As this clip shows, if there’s not supposed to be any drumming somewhere, you can always add some anyway.

The young talented Irishman has been adding drums to all kinds of songs where you wouldn’t expect it.

Take Ólafur Arnald’s NPR Music Tiny Desk concert as an example. The song has no drums on it, but Dockery added some and did an outstanding job. The talent is there, and the guy will probably go far. If you were a fan of this video, be sure to check out Dockery’s other work on Instagram and Soundcloud in addition to his YouTube channel. In any case, we wish him a lot of success with future projects.
