This is one spectacular show on ice!
As most of us know, figure skating is the first-ever winter sport to be included in the Olympic Games which was first held at the 1908 Olympics in London. The sport showcases the elegance and powerful moves of figure skaters while being accompanied by a particular song.
International figure skating judging and competitions are being regulated by ISU or the International Skating Union. According to Wikipedia, these competitions include:
“…the Winter Olympics, the World Championships, the World Junior Championships, the European Championships, the Four Continents Championships, the Grand Prix series (senior and junior), and the ISU Challenger Series.”
Introducing the talented man on ice, Jason Brown.
He was born in Los Angeles, California on December 15, 1994. According to his official website, Jason started skating when he was just three and a half years old. It’s when his mother, Marla Brown enrolled him and his sister in Learn to Skate Classes.
When he turned five, he started working with his longtime coach Kori Ade and trained tirelessly at various ice rinks in Chicago. Then he moved with his coach to Monument, Colorado after graduating from Highland Park High School in 2013.
Actually, this performance of Jason became his one-way ticket to the Olympic Games. According to his website:
“At the 2014 U.S. Championships in January, Jason won the silver medal and competed at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where won the bronze medal in the team event and finished in 9th place In the individual event.”
Enough of history, let’s go straight to Jason’s impressive performance to “Riverdance”.
Before he even starts with his routine, the camera pans and zooms in to Jason’s face, and it shows nothing but deep concentration from the American figure skater. Considering that he started skating at such a very young age, he must’ve gone through a lot just to be where he’s at now. We can only imagine the amount of time and energy he’s invested in this, he must really love the sport so much.
The pressure is building up inside the arena and the anticipation is going sky-high, but knowing the kind of athlete Jason is, we all know he will not disappoint.
Power and elegance!
How can these two be in one routine? Jason will show us how.
As the music starts, Jason glides through the rink of ice, he picks up his pace one notch faster with every second, all the while he’s doing some hand gestures that are perfect to the Irish Riverdance. Then all of a sudden, he goes into the more complicated parts of his routine.
Up he goes for an Axel jump!
While there are really a lot of talented skaters around the world, not everyone can pull off this kind of jump. Jason, however, does a double Axel with so much ease. It really looks like he’s been doing this his entire life.
Jason is definitely one with the music and with the ice, he’s doing everything with so much perfection. And to think that he’s performing it in front of thousands of people and millions of others around the world, the feeling must be nerve-wracking, but not for Jason.
He also goes in for a double triple axel and one-leg spins.
Not only the audience appreciates Jason’s talent but also the announcers of the event, you can hear them praising his routine. I mean, who wouldn’t? You can totally sense that Jason wants to pocket that first-place award.
The video of his performance already has over 2 million views online since it was uploaded on YouTube. With some comments leaving nothing but sweet words to Jason’s beautiful performance.
One online viewer wrote:
“I love how throughout the performance, he looked like he was having the time of his life. His true joy and excitement for the sport and art really made this performance an absolute blast. Well done!!”
While this one couldn’t agree more:
“No words, absolutely no words I could have watched all night and I loved watching the faces of the people in the audience….grinning from ear to ear right along with him. What an amazing gift!!”
