The Late Late Show host, James Corden, gained television and internet fame with his Carpool Karaoke sketches. In these, Corden teams up with a celebrity to, well, sing karaoke in the car. It may be a simple idea but fans absolutely love it.
His most recent carpool karaoke video was with singer Sia. The singer, known for her face-concealing wigs and her hits like “Chandelier,” “The Greatest,” and “Cheap Thrills,” was happy to join Corden with some self-deprecating humor.
The sketch started out with Corden driving along and while chatting on the phone, he noticed Sia on the sidewalk.
But, due to her signature wig, which conceals half her face, the superstar couldn’t see him, resulting in a comedy of errors that had the audience in stitches.
Corden pretended to coach Sia toward the car, yelling helpful (and not-so-helpful) directions.
“I’m over here!” he yelled. “No, other way! No, turn around. Wait there. I’ll come and get you in.”
Once he finally managed to load the singer into the car, the show really got going.
The audience immediately started to scream when the pair began to sing Sia’s hit “Chandelier.”
And of course, they really lost it when the singer hit the chorus that became something of a legend back in 2016.
“I’m gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier,” she sang. “I’m gonna live like tomorrow doesn’t exist, like it doesn’t exist!”
Corden couldn’t quite keep up with the singer’s legendary range but his enthusiasm made up for it.
He was clearly having a great time. And who wouldn’t be, singing along with a pop culture diva-like Sia?
But the video isn’t just them rocking out together. When the first song ended, Corden also brought up a big issue when it comes to Sia: what’s up with the face-concealing wigs?
Sia said her reason is simple: she conceals her face in front of cameras because she wants to hold onto some semblance of a normal, private life.
“I was a singer already for 10 or 11 years to mediocre success,” she said. “I was an alcoholic and a drug addict, and I sobered up and decided I didn’t want to be an artist anymore because I was starting to get a little bit famous … So, I thought, what doesn’t exist in pop music at the moment? And it was mystery.”
After their serious talk, though, Sia and Corden got back to the music.
And the pop star seriously showed off her vocal range.
She was even happy to give Corden an impromptu music lesson to help him sing a bit more like her. She attempted to describe how she captures her unique vocal sound and even played along when Corden poked fun at her sometimes. odd pronunciation.
And then, well, things got goofy.
The two chatted about whether they believed in aliens, and Corden donned his very own replica of the classic Sia wig. Then, of course, he asked if it was true that she could carry six eggs in each hand due to being double-jointed.
“You found out the weirdest sh*t about me,” said the pop star, spreading out her hands. But she was happy to give a demonstration of her unique talent. And yes, she could hold a full dozen eggs in two hands.
Pop star Sia’s talents aren’t just limited to her amazing vocal range.
Ultimately, it’s an example of what the Carpool Karaoke videos are all about: showing who human pop stars really are!
