Pink Floyd, an English rock band formed in London, had a huge commercial and critical success with their eighth studio album Dark Side of the Moon.
With estimated sales of over 45 million copies, it is Pink Floyd’s bestseller and propelled the popular band to international fame.
These impressive facts set the bar really high for anyone who wants to perform their songs.
These performances either go really well or terribly wrong. Guess how it went for the Italian busker who went on to perform three Pink Floyd songs?
Fortunately, this busker was up to the challenge.
Imagine being in Italy. You’re outside of Pantheon, a former Roman temple, and there is an improvised stage set up in front of you. There’s a performer there who says he loves Pink Floyd. Of course, you decide to hang around for a while and see what he’s got—and that’s exactly what people in the video did.
Before long, everyone passing by stopped to listen to him!
The talented street performer is named Serin Halim, and he’s a well-known face in Rome.
People remember him for his brilliant covers of classic Pink Floyd songs. His scene is simple: there is a mic in front of him, one amplifier in the background and an open guitar case on the floor. Of course, we have to mention that Halim plays a black Stratocaster which will inevitably remind you of David Gilmour’s signature instrument.
Apparently, an electric guitar and several pre-recorded backing tracks are all this man needs to put on a show
Halim performs three popular Pink Floyd songs in the video—“Money,” “Time” and “Another Brick in the Wall.”
After the first couple of minutes into the video, we were already convinced that this was one gifted man. He clearly plays guitar with a lot of passion. The whole square seems to be pumping with energy only that only the original band seemed able to produce.
What an awesome way to remember such an iconic band!
Known for their extended compositions, sonic experimentation and philosophical lyrics, Pink Floyd definitely deserves their title as one of the finest rock bands in popular music history.
For his part, Halim delivers pure emotions on the street, and the sound of his guitar is just perfect. When he begins to play the famous solo from “Another Brick in the Wall,” you will be left speechless. He’s the kind of artist who makes the original musician very proud.
As this video shows, quality music can tame any raw emotions.
The most emotional and touching part of the video is probably the moment when a drunk man appears behind Halim.
He’s holding a beer in his hand and is standing by, enchanted by the music he’s hearing. He looks “comfortably numb” and calmed down. The audience was dazzled, and a huge crowd gathered around the talented performer. Halim’s voice and playing are golden. As it turns out, he makes a living and supports his family by playing in front of Pantheon.
Since it was posted three years ago, the clip has earned more than five million YouTube views.
These songs are not as easy to play as Halim makes them seem!
He’s clearly an amazing performer! Halim still performs outside Rome’s most famous landmark, so if you happen to be in Italy and hear him play, support his love of music and Pink Floyd! We only hope he will be signed one day and the masses will enjoy his talent.
