Annabella Gonzalez might only be eight years old, but she is already making a name for herself in the dance world. Annabella won first place for her lyrical solo and also was named Miss Mini Star Systems at a Star Systems dance competition.
Her dance was performed to the gorgeous song “I Will Always Love You” written by Dolly Parton.
“I Will Always Love You” has been recorded by two giants in the music industry. Dolly Parton wrote and recorded the classic song in 1974. Then powerhouse Whitney Houston recorded her version of the song in 1992 for her movie “The Bodyguard.” Both singers are known for gorgeously performing the song with very strong emotion.
Annabella might not be singing the song but she is showing her strong emotion through her dance.
The style of lyrical dance has “been defined as a dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics, modern, and hip hop, while still maintaining its autonomy. The style is usually danced at a faster pace than ballet but not as fast as jazz.”
Lyrical dance is also known for dancing to one’s emotions through the song. Annabella was very courageous in choosing such an emotional song. The dance was choreographed by Alex Anthony at the Adrenaline Dance Company.
Alex knew that Annabella could more than step up to the occasion, and she did beautifully.
Annabella’s performance showcases all the different styles of dance that makes up a lyrical dance. Her balance, strength, and flexibility are unbelievable for a girl at such a young age. It is not only sports that highlight the strength of an athlete, dance does as well.
Lyrical dances also highlight a dancer’s grace, especially Annabella’s.
Annabella connects to the lyrics as she dances. She pours her emotion into her performance. As the song begins she dances gracefully and slow to the song, but when the chorus starts all bets are off.
This is when she shines.
Annabella completes an acrobatic standing somersault and is able to stand from the floor gracefully by using her toes and not her feet. Her strength is truly remarkable. It is not hard to understand how Annabella took first place and Miss Mini Star Systems from this performance.
This performance would be hard for older girls to perform and Annabella is only eight.
Annabella is no stranger to winning her dance performances. At the age of six she won the 1st overall for her contemporary solo. When she was seven she was a finalist for her lyrical dance performance at the Hall of Fame competition.
Annabella is not going to be a future dance star, she already is a star.
Annabella Gonzalez already has her own Instagram page to promote herself as a dancer. For an eight-year-old she already has over one thousand followers. Can you imagine how many followers she will have when she is an adult? Her Instagram page showcases how dance is her life.
Dance is family activity for the Gonzalez family, as Annabella’s older sister, Gabriella, dances at the same dance studio with Annabella. The two sisters call themselves the “dance sisters.”
