Human Nature is a musical ensemble that formed back in 1989 (originally known as The 4 Trax, specializing in doo-wop).

Since then, they’ve had international success as an all-male vocal band and has produced albums that have topped the ARIA Charts. During the mid-to-late 1990s, they went on tour with Celine Dion as a support act, and opened for the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

The group is made up of its four members, brothers Andrew and Mike Tierney, Toby Allen, and Phil Burton. For three decades they’ve been entertaining fans around the globe and even making some of them swoon.

Human Nature gifted the world a holiday compilation they called, The Christmas Album. It contained soulful covers of all-time favorites like, “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” and “Winter Wonderland.”

The quartet didn’t take creating the album lightly, however. It was something that was very important to them and they wanted it to show.

During an interview posted on Human Nature’s website, Phil Burton explained:

“…one of the first things we did when we started out was sing Christmas songs together—performing on street corners in Sydney. So Christmas songs mean a lot to us, and we wanted to make sure this record was a genuinely great record– not just something we threw together because it happened to be the season for it.”

One of the songs on the Australian band’s holiday album is a unique cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

It’s done in a doo-wop, a cappella style, with the four members beautifully harmonizing their voices throughout the rendition. During the video, they snap along creating that overall 1950s vibe.

Human Nature purposely tried to recreate the tune in a way that was unlike others they’d heard.

Mike Tierney shared:

“We did a lot of searching through and listening to different versions of Christmas songs from a lot of different artists. And no one had ever taken [“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”] in that direction before as far as we could find. So we thought it’d be a great, unique way to approach it.”

In Human Nature’s home country of Australia, Christmas occurs during their summertime and without the wintery scenes that their renditions speak about. However, they have something interesting to say about that too.

During a separate interview on their website, Burton said:

“Well it’s a very weird thing because Christmas still feels like winter to us. All the decorations and things are winter decorations– the pine trees, the tinsel, snow on the tree. So in Australia, we still do all that … So the traditions are actually the same in Australia, it’s just the weather isn’t [laughs]. So instead of drinking hot chocolate by the fireplace and playing in the snow, generally we’re drinking white wine by the pool and having a swim.”
