In today’s age, we have more music and entertainment than we know what to do with.
On the one hand, there are plenty of reality and competition shows which showcase emerging and undiscovered talent.
On the other, the internet has made it even easier than ever before to share any new projects you might have. Still, even though the internet and reality shows have created all kinds of musical competitors, there are still plenty of major label artists who do incredible work.
One of those amazing modern artists is Hozier.
For those who don’t know, Hozier is an Irish musician, singer and songwriter.
He is probably most well known for his single “Take Me to Church,” which was a worldwide hit and has been covered countless times on various singing shows as well.
To this day, it has been certified platinum six times. Beyond that, he has also released two EPs and two albums. Although his music is soulful and original, it’s also worth mentioning how engaged Hozier is when it comes to live performances and surprise performances.
One of those performances happened in the video we’re discussing today.
The clip was uploaded to YouTube in December 2014, and it took place on a Norwegian radio station.
In the video, Hozier was in the middle of doing a tour to promote his single and his album. The song he’s performing is probably his most famous, “Take Me to Church.”
Although the original version is a big, operatic style song, this version strips it down to just his amazing voice and his acoustic guitar. From the very beginning, Hozier’s voice is as beautiful and delicate as ever. At first, there’s so little guitar behind him that it’s almost all his voice.
By the time he gets to the chorus, he adds in some guitar strumming and things get interesting.
His voice in the chorus still soars just as well as it ever does—and it sounds even better than the recorded version!
Since the clip was put on YouTube, it has been viewed more than a million and a half times. Still, it’s easy to see why it’s connecting with such a wide audience!
In an age where technology can alter all kinds of different musical sounds, videos like this one remind us that there’s a human being behind it all. Though there might be additional production and editing in Hozier’s music on the record, here it’s just his raw vocals and raw guitar talent.
And he clearly has a lot of both!
Still, this isn’t the only live performance of Hozier out there showing just how talented he is.
One of the more famous of these types of performances was one that he did in the New York City subway. Although he also sung another version of “Take Me to Church,” he also ran through some other hits including his newer single, “Almost (Sweet Music.” As always, the results were amazing.
No matter what kind of music you listen to, it’s not hard to see why so many people respond to Hozier’s talent. Even though the delivery of it all is simple, the soul he brings to it makes it so special.
Congratulations and special thanks to Hozier for giving us so many awesome performances! Be sure to watch the whole thing in the link below:
