It is one of the most iconic songs ever, thanks largely in part to the film Ghost, starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg.
“Unchained Melody” captured the ears and minds of moviegoers because of that pottery scene between Swayze and Moore. But it’s a song that has a deeper history.
It’s a 1955 song.
The music is by Alex North, with lyrics written by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the film Unchained (January 1955), a little-known prison movie hence the song title.
It was Todd Duncan who sang the vocals for the soundtrack.
Hence the music video set in prison.

The popular American quintet has five vocalists namely Austin Brown, Rob Lundquist, Adam Rupp, Tim Foust, and Adam Chance.
They’ve all got unique talents they share within the group which allows Home Free to produce a unique sound to them considering there are so many a capella groups out there.
The group’s music videos do stand out as well.
You can see that they do their research while bringing a few minutes of excellent shots as they sing.
This one is a nod to the song’s origins.

The video is shot in black and white, with the group’s members singing inside their cells all dressed up like prisoners.
It’s such a simple theme but it really works when you know the song’s background!
And as expected from the group, each member’s voice takes over for certain parts of the song with the others providing the background.
It’s listening pleasure without overwhelming your ears. In fact, this rendition of “Unchained Melody” may have you repeatedly hitting the refresh or back button. Worth it!
The incredible harmonies and the balance in blending is like that perfect dish after a long, hard day.
Depending on your vocal range, you could so easily sing with Home Free. Listen closely and follow the notes of whoever matches your range. That’s the beauty of this group.
It makes you see this classic hit in a whole new light.
