Home Free is an a cappella group with a country twist. Over the years they’ve covered many great classics like “How Great Thou Art” and “Ring of Fire,” racking up millions and millions of views on YouTube alone. Just recently, they released a brand new video that’s also making a splash online!

While there are a lot of a cappella groups out there – Home Free is quite unique with their country style.

The five members of the ensemble use solely their voices to create their music (and incredible voices they all have). On their YouTube channel they explain:

“We’re the world’s only all-vocal country band. Everything you hear on our channels is made by the human voice, including all those crazy drum sounds made by Adam Rupp.”

Home Free was founded in 2000 by the five original members.

For years the group traveled around the country performing shows. Then in 2013, they ended up reaching major fame after appearing on NBC’s reality show The Sing-Off. Home Free ended up winning their season of the competition – earning a recording contract and a cash prize.

At this point now, they have over a million subscribers to their YouTube channel and fans that call themselves “Home Fries.”

On August 14th, 2020, Home Free released their video of “The Gambler” as a tribute to the late Kenny Rogers.

“The Gambler” was written by Don Schlitz in 1976, and although other musicians recorded versions of the song – Rogers is the one who popularized it. In fact, he even won a Grammy Award for “Best Country Vocal Performance.”

Similar to Rogers’ music video, Home Free’s takes place around a poker table.

One of the ways that their rendition differs, however, is that it’s done without the use of instruments. The entire song is created with just their mouths – and it’s quite impressive to watch.

All of the members of Home Free pretend to play cards during the video.

The camera goes back and forth showing the five men, who appear to be in the middle of a game. As you might remember, the song is about a man who gets life advice from a gambler on a train. Yet, it’s all done in poker metaphors.

The legendary country star passed in March of 2020, at the age of 81.

When Home Free uploaded their video onto Facebook they used the following caption.

“This is a song we’ve wanted to cover for a long time. Here is our tribute to an absolute legend and class act – Mr. Kenny Rogers…”

Back in 2015, Home Free even had the chance to work with Rogers on a version of the Christmas tune, “Children, Go Where I Send Thee.”

In just a few days, Home Free’s new video has been viewed over 260K times on YouTube and Facebook.

One viewer wrote on their channel:

“This is one of my new favorites of y’all’s! The harmony and overall sound was just incredible. Kenny would be proud :) Thanks so much for all the smiles!”
