If you’re a fan of musicians on YouTube, you may have already heard of Daniela Andrade.
If you haven’t, Andrade is famous as a YouTube celebrity for her acoustic song covers. Her popularity has led her to the next step of her career. She recently released an EP called Tamale and it features plenty of the artist’s personal life, including topics like family, womanhood and her experiences living as a Canadian-Hondureña in North America.
The EP was released October 25, 2019, and is now available to stream on Spotify, iTunes and SoundCloud. With her recent success as an alternative singer and songwriter, it is awe-inspiring to look back as to where she first began.
But even if you haven’t been a fan yet, it’s never too late to check her out!
Her internet presence has established her as a funny, charming and beautiful personality—and her angelic voice can easily captivate millions of listeners.
Her acoustic cover of Shakira’s hit song “Hips Don’t Lie” was just another example of her great talent.
In the video description, Andrade explains what she was feeling while recording the video:
“If you couldn’t tell, I was nearly losing all my marbles throughout this entire video.”
Though it’s unclear from the beginning why she would put that as her video caption, by the end of the cover it’s obvious why.
From the very beginning of the performance, it’s clear that Andrade has an absolutely stunning voice.
Most of the people first came across Andrade through her cover of “La Vie En Rose,” a classic French song originally performed by Édith Piaf. Although this is different from that song, her signature style is still present through all of these performances.
The room has the perfect combination of good acoustics and calming ambiance that definitely enhanced this cover.
Listening to her buttery vocal riffs and runs on her voice is enough to give anybody goosebumps…but sadly the song ends all too early. Even so, she absolutely nails it…and then the camera pulls out.
And that’s when the big reveal happens—who is the person beside her?
Sure enough, sitting right next to her on the couch is Shakira herself!
For anyone pondering why her video description was so strange, the ending finally makes everything fall into place.
The video ended up with a skit between Andrade and Shakira which people found absolutely hilarious.
Shakira was eating some fruit and playing a game on her phone as Daniela finished her cover. At first, they both pretended like nothing strange was happening and like they were good friends. At the end, they both burst out laughing and Shakira compliments Andrade’s rendition of her tune. Though it goes without saying, covering a song with the original artist beside you is a lot of pressure.
Even so, Andrade handled it with so much poise!
Since it was posted, the video got 10 million views and 225,000 likes.
It’s also safe to assume that Shakira liked the video—especially she was there to witness it. Today, people are still swarming back to watch this and her other song covers. She has more than 100 videos that are uploaded on her Youtube channel for everyone to enjoy.
