The annual homecoming assembly is one of the most important days of the school year, and they’re often accompanied by a homecoming dance for everyone to see.

The students at Walden Grove High School in Arizona always manage to deliver a spectacular performance, but this year’s Harry Potter-inspired dance quickly went viral, and for good reason. The dance troupe is now known as an internet sensation.

With over six million views on YouTube, this Harry Potter routine has enchanted viewers all over the world.

The PAC Dance Team and Advanced Dance groups were responsible for the choreography under the supervision of coach Kristi Lopez, and it’s clear that this is not your typical high school performance. It was a spectacular thing to witness, to say the least, and the crowd of fellow students erupted in cheers.

The entire act lasts about six and a half minutes and does a splendid job at combining both storytelling and dance. The entire thing has a Harry Potter theme, and they went quite far.

With costumes, props and set pieces – it’s as if the students came right of out Hogwarts.

The whole thing starts with a young Harry Potter sitting in his tiny room underneath the staircase. That’s definitely a sight that brings up memories from the first movie.

But that’s not all, because a number of important elements of the Harry Potter story are beautifully integrated into the choreography. For example, the dance groups show us when protagonist Harry got approved into Hogwarts, how meets his friends Ron and Hermione, and at the end, there’s a fight thrown in with the main bad guy Voldemort as well. If you need a quick recap of all the movies, this incredible dance performance is really close.

Right after the white stairs are rolled out of the gym floor, some real dialogue from the movie plays of Hagrid telling Harry he’s actually a wizard. It’s wonderfully implemented into the six and a half minute routine. Shortly after, they’re accompanied by a bunch more dancers, including Ron and Hermione.

The whole performance takes an interesting turn when the music starts to play.

The first song that plays is a remixed version of My House by Flo Rida – and the striking contrast with the Harry Potter theme actually seems to work remarkably well. Of course, these students are all nicely dressed up in Hogwarts uniforms and are carrying brooms.

For the Harry Potter fans out there, you’ll probably spot a ton of references and moments from the books and movies. A small duel with Malfoy can be seen in the middle of the performance, and it doesn’t take long before the whole room gets a magic lesson and hears a ‘wingardium leviosa’ and ‘patronus’ blasting through the speakers.

One of the most typical songs of the soundtrack is then remixed into a more techno- and dance-friendly song, but it’s the final song that is perhaps the most perplexing of all.

None other than Voldemort shows up to a Nicki Minaj song, to much applause and cheers.

After the final choreography, it’s time for the Harry Potter story to end. In case you haven’t read or seen the final chapter, be warned for spoilers, although the ending is quite predictable, of course. Once Voldemort was defeated, all of the students then came together for one final and fantastic dance performance.

Aside from their internet popularity, these two dance groups have built up quite a reputation for themselves. Some of their previous homecoming acts, in a Pixar and Wizard of Oz theme, were seen millions of times online as well.

They also recently participated in America’s Got Talent and were asked to perform a routine at an NBA game between the Phoenix Suns and the Chicago Bulls.

One thing is for sure: this is a homecoming that nobody in attendance will ever forget!
