During these trying times when tomorrow is uncertain, it’s always best to look at the brighter side of life.
Ever since the global outbreak of the novel coronavirus, there have been so many changes in people’s lives. We are now living in a world where wearing face masks and frequent handwashing are a must. Some business establishments were forced to go on temporary shutdown, social isolation, home quarantine, virtual meetings, online classes, and many more are now becoming the “new normal”.
But aside from this long list of COVID-19’s negative effects, we can still squeeze in a little ray of hope and get something positive out of it.
We are talking about… time.
We’ve got so much time on our hands now and when it’s used productively, it can be incredibly beneficial.
You can use it to get closer to family, to work on projects you’ve been meaning to get to, or to learn a new hobby.
The possibilities are endless.
And lucky for us, we live in a time when most anything that we come up with can be shared with virtually millions, if not billions, of people.
This teen, in particular, decided to make good use of his free time to do a funny rendition of the Les Miserables song “I Dreamed A Dream” – the coronavirus way.
And it turned out great.
16-year-old Nick has an incredible voice and a clever way with words.
He sits in the passenger seat of a car while his mom drives them around town.
She holds a straight face the entire time, which is great, and Nick begins to belt out his remix.
For those of you who know the song, you know that it is beautiful to listen to.
Though Nick takes a full overhaul of the song’s lyrics, it can’t be denied that he’s still singing it beautifully, just like the original.
He sings of isolation frustrations and being forced to change his summer plans, of businesses going under and life where no one goes to work.
And while all of these things can be frustrating, we can still choose to look at them in a positive light.
While in isolation we can take the time to learn a new skill–pick up an instrument or learn a new language.
Instead of lamenting over ruined summer plans, put together a new trip–go backpacking for a week or fishing or camping. With all the time in the world and no one to hang out with, the outdoors is calling louder than ever.
It’s tough to lose your business or your job, but take it as a sign to try something else–like that career you never took a chance at.
Or you could look at it as a challenge of character–will you be able to overcome this setback?
Nothing is really naturally bad or good, it still depends on how we perceive things.
It just is what it is.
We give it the good or bad label.
So give optimism a try.
Not only will it improve your outlook on life, but it will also improve your health.
According to Harvard Health, “Research tells us that an optimistic outlook early in life can predict better health and a lower rate of death during follow-up periods of 15 to 40 years.”
So be like Nick and do something productive with your time.
You can capitalize on an already existing talent or try and discover a new one.
By learning something new, you’re not only adding to your overall awesomeness as a person, but you are becoming a happier person as well.
Accrding to an article in the Huffington Post, “When people are intensely engaged in doing and learning new things, their well-being and happiness can blossom.”
Good thing is that aside from the creation of the vaccine against COVID-19, the world is still filled with positivity. Again, it always depends on how we look and interpret the things around us. We are all hoping, that pretty soon, we will wake up to a virus-free world. So in the meantime, don’t let corona get you down.
