No matter who sings it. No matter how it’s sung.
“Hallelujah” is one of the greatest songs of all time.
The song has this amazing ability to immediately uplift your spirit and make you feel as if you are one with the divine forces of the universe.

It elicits a special kind of emotion every time you hear it.
No matter how many times you’ve heard it.
That’s why so many people have covered and performed the song.

The song was originally written by Leonard Cohen and released on his album Various Positions in 1984.
Cohen said he wrote 80 draft verses for the song at the Royalton Hotel in New York.
The task of writing the song became so intense that it ended with him sitting in his underwear and banging his head on the floor, according to Wikipedia. The rock and roll gospel tune wasn’t a smash hit when it first came out.

Over time, artists began to see the beauty of it and covered it themselves.
The song then grew in popularity after artists like John Cale, Rufus Wainwright, and Jeff Buckley covered it.
Since 1991, the song has been performed by more than 300 artists in all kinds of languages.
It is believed that more than 5 million copies of the song have been sold.
This song is such a big deal that it’s even been the subject of a radio documentary, a book, and has been in several TV shows and films, including the movie Shrek.
“There’s been a couple of times when other people have said can we have a moratorium please on Hallelujah?'” Cohen said in 2012 interview.
“Must we have it at the end of every single drama and every single Idol? And once or twice I’ve felt maybe I should lend my voice to silencing it but on second thought no, I’m very happy that it’s being sung.”
Many artists substitute some of the lyrics and can include some of the 80 verses Cohen originally wrote.

Some artists don’t even sing it with any music at all.
Like the acapella group Pentatonix from Arlington, Texas.
The five-member group recorded the song for their album “A Pentatonix Christmas.”
The group was featured in Time for covering the song.
“Released on their new Christmas album, the Pentatonix’s cover of the soaring tune will give you all the feels, guaranteed,” the article in Time reads. “From a stripped-down opening it builds into a lush, layered composition, taking a tour of all five singers’ strength and range as they stomp across a barren landscape in the unembellished accompanying video.”

“It’s a somewhat more celebratory version of the song than the ubiquitous Jeff Buckley one you’ve probably cried along to in the past (it’s on their holiday album, after all), but will still stir up all kinds of emotion.”
So, Fisher’s High School figured it would be the perfect song to cover for their winter concert of Dec. 16, 2017. And they were right!

The way the students’ voices blend together is simply amazing. The video of their performance has been viewed more than 9,000 on YouTube.
Not only did the internet love the high school’s rendition but their audience did too.
The audience clapped wildly as and gave them a standing audition. You can watch their incredible performance in the video below.
