We’ve all seen some incredible dances, and we’ve also seen some incredible dance routines, but what about combined? The beauty and fluidity of dance, and the power and explosion of gymnastics combine into something truly unique.
This routine is from a rhythmic gymnastics group out of Ibara High School in Japan, and they are incredible.
The group is competing here in the number one match to determine the countries best rhythmic gymnasts, and you can see why these guys are at the top – they are stunning to watch.
Rhythmic gymnastics is somewhat newer in the sports game and was officially recognized in 1963.
Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which gymnasts perform on a floor with an apparatus: hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon or rope. The sport combines elements of gymnastics, dance and calisthenics; gymnasts must be strong, flexible, agile, dexterous and coordinated.
Essentially, these athletes need to be in tip-top shape AND have the rhythm to match! That’s quite a task!
The men start the dance gathered up in a group.
Moving around in sync with the music, they are perfectly timed. This is more professional than any simple school performance. These guys have obviously practiced for hours on end with precision in order to get their incredible timing down.

While dances are usually quite graceful and nice to watch, the addition of the gymnastic elements makes it a rollercoaster of movement. It is a truly refreshing thing to see people dancing in a way that you haven’t ever seen before.
This group adds in flips, swings, and perfectly executed moves that add to the performance a layer of complexity not commonly seen.
The choreography has dance moves, gymnastic moves, all while telling a story with the music.
To add another level of insanity to the dance, this sport has almost zero acclaim in Japan. People were believed to be disinterested in this form of expression, but when videos were posted and were met with massive success on YouTube, it began to turn the tide.
In the comment section of Youtube, there are many comments such as “I want to see it live!” And “I want you to add it to the Olympic Games”, but the reality is that it is difficult to maintain the status quo in Japan.
This video has reached nearly 2 million views, showing just how interesting people are in watching things like this.
It makes sense, too! You can’t help but enjoy the liquid movements and precise dancing that these dancers show off! It truly is an incredible thing.
